Today, I was studying for a midterm, so I put my computer on the side of my desk to make more room for my books. My roommate came in while I wasn't paying attention and tackle-hugged me from behind - I fell over, knocking my computer out the window. I live on the 8th floor. FML

Don't know about anyone else, but I would never ever put something as valuable as a laptop next to an open window... That's just asking for an accident to happen.

I really hope you had your stuff on a jumpdrive or something and that the hard drive is salvageable! Other than that, your roommate owes you a computer. That sucks! What kind of person runs up and hugs someone without warning?

You were the idiot that put it next to the open window...

The only way this situation could get any funnier is if that computer hit someone in the head.

you probably weren't supposed to have the window open in your dorm, anyway, so double fail! the HVAC systems in most dorms (at least old ones) require the windows to be closed to run correctly.

#29, agreed, it IS a bit late for midterms, but not unheard of. I had a midterm last week, oddly enough. Also, my bet is this didn't happen EXACTLY today. I think it ought to be acceptable for an FML to say "yesterday" or "the other day"...

sucks for you! i had a similar experience cept my laptop fell off an electric piano. a friend was using it at the time and it was their fault so they replaced it

also, if the computer was really heavy, (like if it was a tower or a nice big laptop) why does everyone keep suggesting that a screen would have saved it?? (ie # 23) there might HAVE BEEN a screen, but those flimsy things are designed to keep small things like bugs OUT, not heavy technological items IN.
