Today, I was supposed to hear back from a major scholarship competition. After months of waiting, during which my parents were convinced I had won, I discovered that my entry had never been received. Apparently the woman I had confirmed with had had a long day, and lied so that she could go home. FML

I don't understand how this is a FML. "I didn't have a stack of free money thrown at me. Wahh. FML." Why do so many people expect to get something for nothing? This is the 3rd or 4th scholarship FML I've read on here in the past few days. How do you know she lied so that she could go home? I doubt she's going to admit to it. But if she did, or her supervisors know that, I'm sure they can re-submit your application.

You didn't go to college, did you?

Exactly my point. I'm not making stupid false accusations, I'm saying that anything could've happened. Do you really think that woman is going to admit to lying to her? Nah, it's more likely it got explained as a glitch in the system or something similarly stupid. It's the "She had a long day and just wanted to go home." part. Seriously, who says that? Maybe that's OP's assumption of the scenario, but again, we truly don't know what happened, and I doubt she does either. But if that TRULY was the case, and she makes a big enough stink about it, they'll probably push her application through in a different way, feel sorry for her, and give a scholarship to her even if they wouldn't have otherwise. I see it as an edge, a win. I don't see as how this is a FML, honestly. There are other scholarships out there. Why would anyone hinge their hopes on just one, seeing as it's their education on the line? And yeah, I have applied for, and was granted, multiple scholarships. I know how it works, and I know that it's not something you do just once in hopes that it will be "the" one. This is a situation where you don't put all of your eggs in one basket. And I guess the shitty part is that I didn't even need the scholarships. I had a college fund set up as a child that could've paid the tuition costs many times over. But hey, I *earned* those scholarships, and it meant that I got to keep my own money. Looking back, I guess it means I took the chances of going to college away from someone else. Ehhh, their loss. It isn't the end of the world.

It's isn't the scholarship system that I have an issue with. It's people expecting it, and how their lives are totally ****** if they don't get one. It's like an academic lottery. Your life should not hinge on a fistful of lottery tickets. Her life isn't ****** because she didn't win this one scholarship. Or rather, didn't even get a true opportunity because of one person's inadequacy and laziness. (If that truly is the case.) But, as with the lottery, your chances of winning increase with every ticket you buy, which is why you apply to as many as possible. So I don't see how this is an FML. There are many other scholarship programs out there. I'm sure she applied for more than one. That's just standard. If she didn't, and only applied to the one, and actually expected that she'd be the one chosen, then that's just stupid, and I don't feel sorry, whether the woman lied or not.

Right. Sympathy? Your first post said that we should laugh at them. My whole point is that it probably wasn't the only scholarship she applied for. Therefore, it is not the end of the world that she didn't get it, for whatever reason. Her fault, or the woman's, it matters not because there are more fish in the sea. And as I said, if she DID only apply for ONE scholarship, then I don't feel sorry, as you should fill out as many as possible to better your chances. First situation, not the end of the world, so not a FML. Second situation, kinda a YDI.

I, singlehandedly, am ruining this site? Not hardly, but should I feel flattered? It's called FuckMyLife. I don't feel as if this has ****** her life. Not.The.End.Of.The.World.

62- It's not entirely the fact that she lost the scholarship, it's how she never had a chance because that bitch lied about the application. But tbh, I don't know if the old hag CAN get sued. There weren't really damages, because the OP didn't lose any money. Only an opportunity. The hag probably CAN get fired and maybe her boss could force her to pay part of the tuition, but other than that, the OP's screwed. FYL.

That's just life though. Tons of people will try to **** you over, and half the time, they don't even realize the severity of how it will affect you. OP hinged all her hopes on ONE scholarship application?? Seriously? The woman's boss can't force her to pay someone's tuition because she said "Yeah, your application's here" when it wasn't. If that were true, I could sue my bank and all of my utility companies. If the OP didn't fill it out correctly, it doesn't get entered into the system. That goes for applications submitted online and mailed in. What are the chances that it got lost in the mail? It's more likely that she didn't fill it out correctly, which means it wasn't in the system because it's her fault, not the woman's. We don't know when the OP called to confirm that the application was received. It could've been only a few days ago, in which case, even if the woman had told the truth, it wouldn't have made a difference anyway. FHL for not winning ONE scholarship? Should've applied for others. It was, apparently, a major scholarship competition. What are the chances she would've won it anyway?

Unfortunatley you're probably right. That lady had no legal obligation to be truthful about it. That sucks.

I would definitely sue. I mean, it'll take a while throgh courts, but if you sued the company and won you could get a settlement or go through to win. Either way=more money than the scholarship. :)

Oh my ******* God! That just happened to me! What a bitch! They're reviewing my scholarship again now but school starts in less than a month and it'll take weeks to have the committee review it... oh and with out the scholarship I won't be able to return to school cause my parents won't be able to afford it. I hope it works out better for you
