Don't do it for someone because they're female, do it because someone (regardless of their gender) is about to use the door behind you and you're a decent human being.
Exactly! I kinda pictured OP letting a door slam in some lady's face, her telling him off, and then him going "Oh no! But I just changed my behavior because of what someone told me to do yesterday. :(" Grow a backbone maybe?
I hold the door open for anyone behind me. Man, woman, elf, dog. Equality and manners aren't the same.
This was my exact thought, apart from the awesome inclusion of elves. How terribly rude of me, I never show those dudes proper manners.
I think the main point is this: Women and men are equals. It doesn't mean that we don't like to be lavished with an open door every once in a while. The girl who got offended is probably a headstrong woman trying to make it in a male-dominated field. It sucks that women will never be as praised for their corporate prowess even if getting to that position entailed huge sacrifice and perseverance. I think that's where the resentment lies. OP, if opening doors feels natural to you, you go on and do it.
Just hold it for everyone if you can or no one at all. If someone bitches at you for not holding it just tell them to grab their own ******* door. People are such whiny *******.
meet in the middle . you can still hold the door open for women but dont have to so something rash like put your jacket on the ground if its raining for a lady .
isn't holding doors common courtesy, regardless of gender?
Chivalry is not dead, always let the lady cum first.
Yell at her for not holding the door open for you!
A door should always be held open for anybody! You did the right thing holding the door open :)

True equality is never equal.
Isn't it just normal to hold the door open for anyone? I'm a female and I hold a door for male, female, older or younger because where I'm from its not an act of chivalry but courtesy.
