Today, I was told off for not holding the door open for a woman behind me at work. Yesterday I was informed that chivalry is offensive to women, as it implies that they are not equal to men. I can't win. FML

Isn't it just normal to hold the door open for anyone? I'm a female and I hold a door for male, female, older or younger because where I'm from its not an act of chivalry but courtesy.

******* hell... I cannot stand people who say shit like that. It screws the rest of us over. I love it when guys hold the door for me, but if it happens that there's another one inside the place I'm trying to get to, I'll stop and hold the door open for the guy (ignoring the strange looks I get). It's not about gender equality, it's just the nice thing to do.

I understand! I'm a girl and I dont understand us. This is why I hang out with guys

damned if you do, damned if you dont. do it anyway :)

"Chivalry" in the sense of "oh noes! wimminz are so weak, we must help them!" is offense. Being a genuinely nice person is not. It's common courtesy to hold the door open for people behind you, regardless of gender.

Why not hold the door for both men and women? It's not chivalry, it's just good manners...

Catch 22 huh? Here is my solution, instead of only opening the door for girls, also open the door for guys, this way you're able to be chivalrous and take care of everyone instead of showing special treatment to girls and being criticized for it.

The first woman was probably some deranged lesbian. I mean feminist. No wait I was right the first time

I hold the door open all the time, and I see a lot of people do it, too. It's just a nice thing to do.

That's the right thing to do. Obviously the women was either drunk, insane or both.
