Today, I was told off for not holding the door open for a woman behind me at work. Yesterday I was informed that chivalry is offensive to women, as it implies that they are not equal to men. I can't win. FML

Isn't it just normal to hold the door open for anyone? I'm a female and I hold a door for male, female, older or younger because where I'm from its not an act of chivalry but courtesy.

That's women for you. When it comes to pay it's all "we should all be equals", but when the ship starts sinking suddenly it's "women and children first".

Dumb ***** get back to the kitchen. The only doors they should ever be near are the fridge and the oven.

I, among the many here, find it common courtesy to hold doors for those going through near you, regardless of gender. I will even grab the door for someone if they are there first when their hands are more full than mine...again, common courtesy. What pisses me off is when you're holding the door for someone, or a few people, and an endless stream of people follow through behind - without saying "thank you" or "no, you go on ahead", and you get stuck being the douche door holder, or end up squeezing into the stream of people and getting crappy looks from the person you "cut off".

Did someone at work say that to you or was it just in passing conversation? Besides, there's a difference beetween not being chivalrous and being rude. I'm a woman and when someone is approaching a door I'm going through, I hold it open regardless of gender because it's courteous. Its called common sense, not chivalry.

Damn feminists for ruining it for the rest of us "sane" women. Why can't women just be happy with a man doing them a favor? I for one think we need to go back to the way it used to be. Face it ladies we ARE the weaker sex, getting the same pay won't change that. Down vote away!

May I ask who told you such tomfoolery? Only the insane ones would get offended by something as asinine as holding open a door for someone, which I view as common courtesy anyways. I hold the door open for both genders; it is much ruder to let a door slam in someone's face.

Wow, women with a double standard. Who would have thunk?

"When it comes to women all men are on the losing side"

It's rude not to hold the door period, whether the person behind you is male or female.
