Today, I was trying on some shoes when I felt the heels break underneath me. Not only did they cost two paychecks worth, but as I was leaving I heard the sales girl say that "we really should have a weight limit for who can try on our products." FML

geeze, leave her alone. people can break heels easily without being big. my best friend is 60kg, and really tall, and she broke a pair of heels when we were out the other night. honestly, they can be easy to break, she might not have been a big person. even if she is, some of you arseholes need to shut the **** up, cos theres no way in hell you're perfect, let alone the op. and whats so bad bout trying on something you might not buy? i try on shoes and clothes that are expensive that i dont have an intention of buying, but just want to see what it looks like, and then maybe save up and buy it. plus, two paychecks worth? ever thing maybe she has a part time job whilst at school or uni??! i say complain to the manager, cos that was rude what the girl said. and dw about what some of the idiots on here are saying! :)

Why does the thyroid gland always get mentioned in fat threads? Most people aren't fat because their thyroid doesn't work. They're fat because of unhealthy diet and lifestyle. I'm sorry if you genuinely have a thyroid problem, #92, but just because you have it, it doesn't mean every other fat person does. Mentioning it every time there's a fat thread only helps the fat OP keep blaming their weight issues on something or someone other than themselves.

Most stores are able to write off broken merchandise. If not, why are they even in business? I would refuse to pay on those grounds alone, then talk to the store owner about the crappy customer service. FYL.

Most stores will charge a customer is they break merchandise while testing it out, trying on, etc. If it breaks by some fluke or product fault then they can usually reclaim from the wholesaler or manufacturer, but if a customer breaks it why shouldn't they have to pay?

Even if the girl was a little heavy, I'd consider the heels breaking to fall under "product fault". Ok, I get it, fat people shouldn't wear high heels. We don't know what the OP actually weighs, and besides, I see people walking around every day in high heels who aren't exactly models. Perhaps the OP is a bit overweight, but not morbidly obese. Heels in shoes should at least be built so that a chubby person can stand on them for a few moments without breaking. Otherwise, they will break after a couple days when even a lightweight person is using them. Unless the OP is extremely heavy, then it sounds like shoddy craftmanship to me.

I agree with SimpleSimon. Don't try on shoes you can't afford. Also, if you are so big you break stuff, then it's time for a diet.

Wow, that would be one hell of a costumer friendly sign. "People over xx lbs are not allowed to try on our shoes". Geez. No matter how fat the OP is, the shoes shouldn't have broken.

Or how about: "If you had trouble coming through our front door, then you you probably shouldn't try on our shoes"

Besides, really obese people tend to have chubby feet too, which wouldn't fit into the really dainty shoes anyway. The shoes are probably at fault.

YDI for trying on shoes that you had no intention of buying

In a lot of places, stores are by law required to have insurance which covers normal wear & tear of items in store -- including customers accidentally breaking fixtures & merchandise. Because of this, enforcing the 'you break it, you bought it' policy is illegal, because it's possible to recoup the costs of whatever was broken through insurance. By also requiring customers to pay, they're effectively able to recover their money twice. YDI for not knowing that.

Propably the most intelligent comment in here. I'd refuse to pay, for those reasons. Even if it was required by law to pay, there is no way to know if a previous potential buyer tried those on and -not to full extent- already damaged them, leaving them set for destruction.

He said in lamenst tersm" Who fault is it that you are overweight?' I couldnt tell if you got it. He saying IT the Op's fault she is overweight not anyone elses.

How about you stop being fat, stupid( for trying something you can't afford) If you went to a ferrari-maserati Dealership and pulled in some 99 Honda Civic Think they would let you test drive nonetheless let you in? and probaly poor I can afford a $100 pair of Nikes so unless they were Air Jordans or something really nice that I havent heard of then idk. Guys besides Nikes what else is a really expensive pair of shoes?

Jimmy Choos. There are loads of brands which sell shoes for hundreds of pounds.

Actually, RJB, Chanel, Givenchy, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Salvatore Ferragamo, Roger Vivier and Bottega Veneta all make shoes that cost from $1,000 to $14,000. OP might actually be incredibly rich.

Hahahahah! It's like you're a 12 year old boy!

there's no way they can make you pay for shoes that broke while trying them on. I'd laugh and walk out. YDI if you actually paid for them. If a car broke down while you were test driving it, would you pay for the repairs too? The Sales lady knew you were big and let you try them on anyway, it's her fault...
