By yes, yes it does :( - 30/04/2014 21:11 - United States

Today, I was waiting on a Canadian tourist at work, and he bought some of the most expensive stuff on the menu. I was excited about maybe getting a big tip, so I casually said that in the USA, waiters make most of our money off tips. The guy just snorted, "Sucks to be American, eh?!" and left. FML

That's basically asking for a tip. What a way to treat customers.

You were fishing for it but he was being a dick. I voted both.

Well, sorry OP but you shouldn't have fished for tips!

server probs I would have tackled his ass

Maybe he would have tipped had you not mentioned it? Kind of a dick move.

yes it does suck to be American. enjoy your low minimum wage.

He may have tipped you if you didn't basically ask him to tip you.....

I'm curious as to how the manager of the Chinese restaurant handled that situation. I wouldn't have tipped either if that happened to me. Also, I thought I'd mention that it is actually considered rude to tip waiters in some countries. Not here in America, but I think it is in Germany.

It's so odd to read about how low wages are and tipping vs not tipping, for waiters/waitresses, in the USA. I live in Australia, and work at a Chinese restaurant (part time while I'm studying) and I get paid $21.25 during the week and $25.50 on the weekends. We do have a tip jar, but for the most part people just put in a little change, or $5-$10 if they were part of a large group. Giving tips to a specific waitress is rather rare, although I did get a $50 personal tip once :D

Why are people thinking Canadians don't tip? Most do if you are polite, and we too lots. Also they dont get paid less than minimum wage

Pressurizing the clients to get tip will get you that kind of reaction... Dumbass

they give tips to waiters in Canada .. if you weren't such a dick about it you would have gotten one
