By yes, yes it does :( - 30/04/2014 21:11 - United States

Today, I was waiting on a Canadian tourist at work, and he bought some of the most expensive stuff on the menu. I was excited about maybe getting a big tip, so I casually said that in the USA, waiters make most of our money off tips. The guy just snorted, "Sucks to be American, eh?!" and left. FML

That's basically asking for a tip. What a way to treat customers.

You were fishing for it but he was being a dick. I voted both.

I wouldn't have tipped either. You are rude and do not deserve a tip. do you really think that Americans are the only ones who tip? next time do your job cheerfully, without the greedy hints and you will probably get what you deserve.

In the US waiters/waitresses make 3.15 an hours without tips. That guy was a jerk, telling people from out of the country is fair, because they often stiff.

In most other countries gratuity or tips is already added to the bill and waiters get paid a lot better. No one deserves not to get a tip, unless your a horrible person to your customer otherwise it's the waiters livelihood your ******* with. I know a lot of people who are wait staff and it sucks for pay and every time someone stiffs them it hurts them financially. There's a lot of states in the US where waiters get $3 an hour because tips are counted as hourly pay so if you don't tip they only get $24 a day before taxes, can you live off $24? Also everywhere the government assumes you get tipped so you are taxed a portion of you sales as tips whether you get tipped or not.

YDI for fishing for a tip, and thinking Canadian waiters/waitresses don't rely on tips as the main income. Canada isn't a third world country. Better luck next time.

All waiters make most of their money off of tips dumbass. Do you think Canadian waiters don't get tips?

You only deserve a tip for good service. Asking for a tip is not good service.

That wasn't very nice of him, but he's not required to tip you. You didn't cook the food, so it being really expensive doesn't mean you deserve a bigger tip ... Maybe I you didn't ask for one, he would've tipped ... YDI

so much for the saying that Canadians are overly nice.

You NEVER discuss tips with your customer. Not everyone tips and honestly, even being a server myself, I think tipping is ridiculous. Why do waitresses and waiters get money handed to then after giving you some food, drink and hopefully some sort of entertainment or conversation. Some personality. There are bag boys, gas jockeys, delivery people, the list goes on, and how often do they get tipped for their services?

Oh screw you, waitresses get taxed on their tips wether they receive them or not. And they get paid maybe 3.50 an hour in the US. And for that they get tips, it's also spread out between, busboys and cooks. And sometimes the restaurant will take some of the tips too!
