Tipping isn't mandatory, it's a nice gesture. If a tip was mandatory, it would automatically be added onto the bill. If they're from an area where an automatic gratuity is always added, they may have forgot and assumed it was added on. If they're not from America, tipping may be unheard of. In Japan for example, it's an insult. They could have just forgot. They may not have had cash. You could just be a sucky waitress and didn't deserve a tip. You could have not seen it since I'm assuming it was several tables, maybe it was on another table. Or they could just be jerks. Even if they are jerks, you absolutely cannot be rude. Fake a smile, say "Have a nice day/night", and be damn grateful for that 50 cents.
Guys, I know servers earn much less than minimum wage, but that's no reason to expect a nice gesture. OP knew her pay would depend on her performance and generous customers when she applied. The company is also supposed to make up the difference if her wage plus tips didn't match what minimum wage would be. There's a reason for the lower wage. It's to encourage servers to be great and earn big tips for great service. Why should a rude and lazy waitress earn as much as the one who's friendly and helpful? Automatic gratuities put on the bill won't help either. I've been somewhere that had an automatic gratuity and I hated it! The food was awful, the waitress was a bitch, it was already overpriced, and no one told me I had to pay 15% extra. The waitress didn't deserve 15%. Maybe that's how the family felt.
Good for you, would have done the same
And you're wondering why you didn't get a tip....
Lol I can't imagine being tipped more than $100 xD
I would have cried, OP. I feel your pain. I might have done the same thing, actually. That's a $140 tip right there that you missed out on, and if I got nothing on something I worked so hard on, I definitely would have made a scene. Next time, maybe add gratuity? You may screw yourself over and miss out on a possible 20-25%, but at least you're guaranteed an 18-20%.
Are you retarded? Why would you throw anything at a customer?

they probably should've left a better tip, but at the same time you can't throw quarters at a customers head and not expect to be fired.
For them to leave only 50 cents it was clearly as an insult to the waitress imo.
