I can't believe no one has mentioned this, but your fish died because it's in a bowl. If it was a goldfish, I'm sure of it. Each goldfish needs at least 10 gallons of water and a filter because they produce a ton of waste. Fish are actually really hardy and long-lived (I've had 8 and 9 year-old fish) if you take care of them correctly.
I was just gonna say this, but you (and the previous poster) beat me to it. Good job. Considering the ratio of FML's to YDI's not many people seem to realize this, though. And anything this person was able to keep alive in a bowl wouldn't even need enough food in a year to be considered "heavy".
actually, my mom had a goldfish that lived for 10 or 15 years in A PUNCH BOWL. so it really doesn't matter if you have a tank or bowl or filter. i just got a goldfish and its perfectly happy in one of those "classic" fishbowls
There's always exceptions to the rule - dogs and cats can live for years in an an abusive or neglectful home too, doesn't mean they're happy though. Chances are that the goldfish will be stunted (hasn't grown to its full potential size) are probably very unhappy unfortunately. Tanks and filtration really do matter and it's a shame that so many thousands of fish die every year due to the ignorance of their owners.
I'm sorry, I think you've mistaken your fish for a dog.
ydi for having a fish as a pet, that's so cruel.
I can't believe all these people just saying 'get a new fish' and admitting to how badly they've neglected fish in the past. Fish may not be cute and furry, but a fish is still a living animal and deserves proper care like any other. Would you fuckwits all be going 'just get a new one... hey I remember how I used to have one of those and I left it sitting in its shit for weeks and it died really quickly! Haha!' if it was a dog or cat? You disgust me.
i think most of us are saying "just get a new one" because you don't generally get emotionally attatched to fish. i take good care of mine, but when one of them croaks i'm not about to lose any sleep. now, if one of my cats were to die, i would be horribly depressed. fish have no personality. i'm not saying don't take care of it, but it's not a big deal when one dies because they're basically a step above a plant.
You shouldn't be taking care of fish, or have any pets if you let a fish die
err....buy another fish?
Looks like fish is on the menu tonight. Grab a lemon and some foil. Mm Mmm.
"Today, I was walking to the pet store to buy a month's worth of fish food for my fish so I wouldn't have to come back for a while. For fish food it was expensive. It was also surprisingly heavy and I had to carry it back to my house. When I got home, I saw my fish floating at the top of its bowl. I can't imagine a four ounce container weighing that much. And you'd be stupid if you were feeding any fish that much unless it was like, a phiranna or a koi or something. and then it shouldn't be in a bowl.
How is fish food that heavy??

I think you've been using DOG FOOD to feed your fish. That pretty much explains everything you said.
Just get another one, they're like three bucks
