Today, I was yelled at by a customer because I wouldn't give her a new iPhone 5 for free to replace her broken Nokia, which she threw out the window in "blind rage". I felt awful having to thank her for calling. Sadly, this is a daily event. FML

I'm confused... Why would she need a new phone? Her Nokia should be fine...

I would have laughed in her face and hung up the phone. why waste your time in someone like that?

It may suck and be really annoying but he can't hang up the phone. He works in customer service. It's his job to deal with annoying people.

I understand your pain. No really I deal with that on a daily basis as well.

Everyone knows that it's a scientific fact you can't break a Nokia. That's what you should of said

If the phone broke, it obviously wasn't a Nokia. When a Nokia is dropped on the ground it causes an earthquake.

Have to love the "me" mentality of people today.

Earthquake?? The Nokia killed the dinosaurs everybody knows that.

I used to work in a call center and I never let any customer insult me or yell at me. I would firmly reply that I would have to end the call if their tone and vocabulary didn't change and that usually would do the trick. If it didn't, I'd simply hang up. My boss would never say anything as I was staying polite and didn't use bad words to retort to these assholes who thinks that the hotline in their anger therapy session. Maybe I was lucky and my management was lenient, but I always refused to be disrespected like that. On the long run, it can really bring you down. OP you should have a talk with your manager and see if you can get off the hook in these circumstances. You shouldn't be any frustrated low life's punching ball. It's not like you owned the company and made the rules. Good luck.

My company is the same way. We actually aren't allowed to stay on the line and take their crap, after a warning we can hang up.

The iPhone would have been appropriate punishment for her.
