Today, I went back to school after missing the first 2 weeks of the new school year. I got grilled in my first lesson by my teacher for "gallivanting around on holiday in some sunny place" when I should've been at school learning. My dad had died from liver cancer. FML

This is probably one of those very rare instances where you could cuss out your teacher big time and get away with it... after you have explained to the head teacher that you father just died of course.

Yeah the school should've done a better job at finding out what's up & passing along the message. My dad died from a heart attack when i was 11 and the week following that weekend at school sucked. People who never spoke to me before were giving condolences and at the time i wished they would just leave me be. Sorry for your loss

I'm the OP's teacher (not really) and I believe that a funeral is no better an excuse than a vacation. He should not have put his petty sentiments in front of academics. To the OP's teacher, I just saved you thirty seconds by writing your comment for you

To be clear, the comment I posted is not my opinion just the opinion of an exaggerated idea of what that kind of teacher would be like. I of course realize that his teacher would probably not really think that a funeral is not an appropriate excuse And I hope no one actually thought that I thought that a funeral was not a valid excuse. I was just making a joke using what I thought was pretty obvious sarcasm. I think its sad what happened to the OP's dad but I doubt I offended him because if he didn't want jokes to be made he wouldn't have posted it on FML, a comedy site To the OP, too bad that happened. At the off chance the OP's teacher is actually reading this, sorry if I offended you, but I hope you feel bad at yelling at the OP.

hit there ****** head in. this happened to my friend in my primary school way back and the teacher started on at him and he just hit him and walked out. OP thats really horrible and i do hope u did somethin about it but anyway hope u pull through sorry for your loss
