Today, I went back to school after missing the first 2 weeks of the new school year. I got grilled in my first lesson by my teacher for "gallivanting around on holiday in some sunny place" when I should've been at school learning. My dad had died from liver cancer. FML

Today, my teacher announced that he'd be out for a week because he was going to Vegas. I happily said, "Woo hoo!" Then he finished his sentence by telling me it was because his dad had died. FML

Today, my English teacher asked me why I didn't have my project completed. Thinking quick on my feet, I told her it was because my grandmother had just passed away. Apparently they go to the same country club and have known each other for years. My teacher started crying and ran out of the room. FML

Today, I had to go to my daughter's school because she hasn't been going to class. Her teacher seemed surprised to see me with my husband when we arrived. Apparently I "died" recently and my daughter has had extra responsibility around the house, hence why she doesn't come to class. FML

Today, after I missed in school for two and a half weeks, I also missed three tests. Now I gotta work for all of them during my holidays and read two books for school. My holidays are just gonna be like school, but with more work. FML

Today, I left for college. I spent hundreds of dollars on clothes, bedding and other things. After packing my entire closet and everything else I needed, I left only to have to head back home. My dad forgot to pay the first semesters tuition. He said "Oh well, you would have failed out anyway." FML

Today, I spent my first day with my parents for the first time in a year as I've been away at university. My dad went to work, and my mum spent the whole day playing mahjong with her friends as they all told me "how fat I've gotten" and how "boys won't like it". FML

This is probably one of those very rare instances where you could cuss out your teacher big time and get away with it... after you have explained to the head teacher that you father just died of course.

you should have answered my dad just died and walked away. or take the death certificate to your principle and have him email all the teachers so you dont get grades off.

Did you calmly explain to the teacher " My father passed away recently and i'm going through a rough time. Is there any way possible I can make up the work?" Sure the teacher was sort of rude, but that does not warrant in him/her being called a bitch, and other things as some other posters are suggesting.

FYL. Same thing happened to me when my Far died. I know two weeks was a long time in teacher times to be off school but it was needed. You should show her a death certificate. I'm sorry for your loss.

As someone who has lost a parent during a school year, I need to point out that it was your responsibility to contact your teachers and give them a heads up. I'm sorry for your loss, but you still have to be responsible.

Maybe the teacher was just not informed. I would have calmly just said after she finished ranting, "Well, I'm sorry about the inconveniance, Mrs.(****). My father died of liver cancer, and I was busy crying the shit out of myself!" Then she would of probably turned white and start making excuses and saying "Im so sorry!" I hate how closed-minded teachers are sometimes, and other people in general.
