Today, I went shopping for a wedding dress at a fancy store. The proprietor took one look at me, said they don't have any dresses large enough for me, and asked me to leave. No wonder my self-confidence is in the gutter. FML

Ok, OP here. The first woman I asked did not even attempt to size me, just sent me to the 'plus' section. When I got to the plus section, she did not size me either, but looked me up and down and asked me what size t-shirt I wear. I usually wear a medium when I wear stretchy tees, large when I don't. She told me they will not have anything in my size in white ever. I should not go other places, either, I should just call and that way I don't have to be disappointed everywhere I go. Thank you guys for your words of encouragement, but I think I'm just going to not get a dress.

I was treated very badly when I bought my dress. I called the headquarters and told them I would call the news and they gave me my dress for free.

She's probably just jealous because she's not getting married. Always a wedding dress seller, never a wearer.

It doesn't matter if you're tall, short, fat, skinny, light, dark, small chested, large chested, big boned, red headed, or blond. People are going to have a problem with you. We're dicks, almost all of us. Judgmental and rude, and all you can do is know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. (Unless it's unhealthy, that's a gray area)

love yourself. then get in a relationship. then spend your money elsewhere

I can't understand why people are having such problems with bridal shops. How do these bridal shops expect to stay in business if all they're doing is shaming anyone with a size 6 proportion or higher? Honestly, there's no reason they should be turning away anyone's money, if they had decent business sense. It's time like these that call for stern customer reviews, boycotts, and publicizing the shameful business practices of these establishments; I'd guarantee, after that, they'd be kissing ass just to make ends meet.

Many businesses owners or managers believe that, by belittling and insulting their customers, they're actually inspiring those customers to spend more money to stop feeling inferior. The approach is said to work in the upscale restaurant and wine industries. It might be true in the wedding industry too. Definitely there's a tendency to goad customers into over-spending.

I was watching Say yes to the dress and they mentioned how wedding dresses are mostly made for the average sized woman.

I had the same problem when I was looking for dresses. The process was depressing and not at all like the happy times shown on that tv show Say Yes to the Dress. So I went online and found a dress that I loved. It was easy to have my then fiancé take my measurements and so much less intrusive than a stranger at a store doing it who I did not want to know my size. For $149, which included the shipping from overseas, I got a custom made dress that I loved. So don't give up, OP. You will find your dream dress and have a beautiful wedding.

Well, not trying to be rude here, but if they really don't have any dresses in your size you're probably severely overweight and putting yourself at a health risk. Start working out, girl, it'll improve your health and confidence!

maybe lose some weight? don't want to be a fat bride now do we (;

I'm sorry. I hope you found an amazing dress.

Maybe your self-confidence wouldn't be in the gutter if you'd lose some weight? Obviously you know you have weight issues and need to lose some pounds but are too lazy to do anything about it. So don't get pissed and depressed when other people also notice your fat problem.

Cheer up, OP! You're the one shopping for a wedding dress, you're the one getting married! That person was probably jealous because they see person after person come in for their happy occasion and they're bitter as ****.
