Today, I went to a coffee shop with my friend. The guy rang her up and said it was only a dollar as he winked at her $10 purchase. Then he rang me up at completely full price. She got his number and I got to be the ugly friend once again. FML

You don't need a guy who works at a coffee shop anyway. You probably deserve better.

You gotta stop comparing yourself to your friend or you'll never be happy.

so what if one person in the world isn't attracted to you? not really that big of a deal..

Uhhh, he ain't for you. You'll score a hottie with a personality. You'll have the last laugh and she will be single.

This has happened to me more times than I can count and after awhile I just got used to the fact that pretty girls don't pay for things but ugly girls do. The only time I got really pissed was when a guy gave the woman ahead of me in line a free meal then said to me in a snarky, nasty tone, "Don't think YOU'RE going to get free food, too" as if I were too stupid to understand the 'pretty=freebies, ugly=pay full price' rule. We were at a mall food court and I told the manager on him, who checked and saw the woman at a table scarfing down a $10 meal that had no corrollating receipt or order number on their computer. He made the guy pay for the food he gave away, then fired him on the spot. Honestly, it wasn't the fact that he was willing to give free food to a pretty woman but forced me to pay that bugged me. It was the fact that he seemed to enjoy rubbing my nose in it that pissed me off. And really, what did it net this guy? He was fired over a pretty woman and he didn't even get her number.

Good for you for standing up for yourself. Nobody deserves to be treated so rudely, I don't care how pretty or ugly you are.

Thank you, No. 136, for getting it. It wasn't the fact that he made me pay and not her; it was the fact that he was so rude to me that irked me. Really, all I wanted to do was order my lunch, pay for it, and sit and eat in peace. Is that too much to ask?

Standing up for yourself like that... Epic!!

Thank you, sir. Thank you. Again, it wasn't the incident itself, it was his unprovoked rude behavior toward me. I was a customer and all I said was, "I'd like the chicken salad special with iced tea, please." All he had to do was fill my order but NOOOO, he had to get a shot in at me.

A similar thing happened to me, as well... I was the one who got a free slice of pizza & as I was walking away, I heard the guy say nearly the exact same thing that was said to you to the girl behind me. I turned around & saw that the girl was nearly in tears at his rudeness. I went right back to the counter, paid for my meal & hers & told him he disgusted me. I told his manager what happened & the other girl corroborated my story, so he was fired right then. I salute you for standing up for yourself against such rudeness & disrespect. We can all only hope that he learned a lesson in manners from the ordeal. If not, then at least you don't have to see him the next time you eat there.

Serendipity Rose, good for you and it is I who salute YOU!! You are part of the solution and not part of the problem. In my situation, the pretty woman who got the free food watched this whole scene then went back to stuffing her face without so much as a shrug. She didn't care that this guy did her a favor and got fired over it; she got her freebie and that was all that mattered to her. You must be a really good person. Most people would have wolfed down their free pizza and let it go at that but you didn't, you went back and did the right thing. You are in the minority.

Bravo, 244. And 133, too! Thumbs up for each.

trying to think of a statement that is relevant and won't get me showered by an onslaught of thumbs down for my callousness and lack of a heart . I got nothing

Be glad the guy didn't charge you the $9 he shorted the store by giving the 90% discount to your hot friend. Everyone has to pay for the privilege to be in the presence of a beautiful woman, even if there is zero chance any sex with happen later. Ugly guys have been doing this for generations because even though the odds of scoring are astronomical, it's so ******* worth it!

I agree to an extent, Perdix, but the problem here is that NO ONE paid. If the clerk had charged her $1, rang up $10 and put in the $9 difference out of his own pocket, NOW he's paid, but that didn't happen here. Since the clerk rang up a $10 sale as a $1 sale and collected the $1, the register will balance at the end of the day and his deception will go unnoticed. He stole from the company, which is a form of retail theft. Retail theft is a contributing factor in rising prices, as retailers must cover the costs of the losses directly or indirectly through higher insurance rates. Every time someone steals, either by shoplifting or by a salesperson deliberately undercharging a customer, the cost for all of us goes up.

#148, so the rest of us chipped in to pay for the cashier to have a fleeting moment with a beautiful girl (and give her his number)? I'll bet women are offended at theft, but most guys would be happy to toss a quarter or two in his tip jar to sponsor his Casanova ways. His odds would be better if he had gotten her number.

No retailer offers a 90% discount to its employees so that is just ridiculous, plain and simple. If all of you are willing to spend your own money in an effort to help a stranger get into the pants of another stranger that is your business, but I would prefer to spend my money on other things. Look, all I am saying is that retailers are in business to turn a profit. They are not a food/products subsidy program for attractive women as determined by the sales people.

Y'all do realize that perdix comment was totally tongue in cheek, right?

#235, mostly tongue in cheek. Shelling out money to be in the presence of beautiful women is a pleasure. (I'm not talking about hookers.) Buying drinks, lunch, coffee, etc. to hang out with a pretty girl is a very easy way to spend money. Even if you end up going home and spanking it alone, it's still worth it ;)

It's funny how ppl label the guy a douche, etc. maybe he works at a coffee shop while finishing med school. Maybe OP needs to stop expecting men to notice her when she's clearly less attractive then her friends. Time for some soul searching OP... Or maybe online dating! Not a FML tho... More of an excuse. Sorry for the reality check.

If they ordered together and he only discounted the good looking one then he'd be an ass but he didn't so stop whining!

It isn't the fact that he works at a coffee shop that makes him a douche. It's the fact that he stole from his employer by deliberately undercharging a pretty customer in an effort to get a date with her, then charged a woman he didn't want to go out with full price, that makes him a douche. He is a douche because he is in control of a cash register and he is using his dick to decide that some people get steep discounts while others pay full price. One wonders how often he does this and how much money, over time, his shop is losing because of this practice.

Yeah, I would have called the manager. It depends on the situation, though, really. I'm surprised your friend didn't offer you $4.50 to make it even, so for that reason, I would have called it.

Either way he can't do that. Even as a worker you can't make a $10 purchase $1

Yes, thank you, coolbrony. And if the clerk had given her his discount he most likely would have mentioned it to her since he was trying to impress her.

What was he supposed to do? Hit on you both?

RedPillSucks 31

yes, or at least not be so damn obvious about it.
