Today, I went to college, where I'm studying for my dream job. Despite getting up at 5am to catch the earliest bus into town, I arrived ten minutes late. My professor knows my circumstances, but is still threatening to kick me off the course if I don't "arrive on time like everyone else." FML

I know it sucks, but if he makes an exception for you he'll have to make one for everyone else. Maybe you could carpool with a classmate?

No offense, but this is the reason dorms exist. If you live too far away to make it by bus in the morning perhaps you should move closer. If it's for your dream job as you say it should be worth some blood, sweat and tears (and money).

Talk to the dean if he won't budge.

egh. You shouldn't have stopped for that haircut.

I would suggest moving closer, but that is often an unpractical and costly action. Is there perhaps a cheap hotel nearby, or do you have a friend at the college who lives nearby? Maybe they'd let you crash at their's when you have class the next day?

Move closer to the school or drive. Rules suck but you have to follow them.

I don't understand strict attendance policies in college. There is a natural consequence to missing class that tends to manifest itself in failing. Let students waste their time and run up their bills. They will learn.

Well that's nice and good and all except there's probably 30 other people who wanted that spot and would show up on time and pass while that person is failing You're not just screwing yourself you're screwing everyone who you beat to that last spot in the class who has to wait another semester or year just so you can not show up

(And, following that, situations like OP's won't be a big deal. He can just slip in and everything will be just fine.)

These "rules are rules" commetns are so ignorant. I'm sure none of you have ever had to take a bus. You don't know the circumstances. It takes me 6 hours to get to and from a job that is a 15 minute drive. The OP says it's their dream job so they may have had to wait to get into a certain program at the college. After a certain age you can't get financial aid so maybe this is their only reasonable option. At least they are in school trying to make their situtaion better....OP explain your situation to someone else. Your prof soesn;t have that much power. What a dick.

If your bus takes 6 hours for a 15 minute drive you might be on the wrong bus Try walking or biking hell you're probably better off hitch hiking

Make friends with someone that lives closer that will let you stay the night on school nights. Assuming its not an every day class
