Today, I went to college, where I'm studying for my dream job. Despite getting up at 5am to catch the earliest bus into town, I arrived ten minutes late. My professor knows my circumstances, but is still threatening to kick me off the course if I don't "arrive on time like everyone else." FML

I know it sucks, but if he makes an exception for you he'll have to make one for everyone else. Maybe you could carpool with a classmate?

think on the bright side at least u have something u wanna do

It sucks, but it is your responsibility to be on time. At my college you're not even allowed to come in after the lecture has started. If you can't be there on time no matter what, maybe you should think about moving.

We had a guy like you where I used to work. He showed up late every day because he didn't have a ride or couldn't get there on time, and when the managers said something he cried "it wasn't his fault." Fact of the matter is you have to be there when classes start. They assume when you start school you've thought ahead about transportation.

I have a hard time grasping just how not understanding some of the folks are here. At the university I am studying many of the courses only have one class every semester. That means that you cannot "pick and choose" whatever time suits you, either you go or you do not go. And you fail to recognize that you do not completely understand and know the situation of the poster. Perhaps he could only afford going there if he continued living at home? For that reason also getting a car could be impossible. And biking there would probably take ages too. (Sure I have no idea how commuting works in the US, but busses do drive faster than most people can bike, which would make sense unless the bus does this huge detour..)

Buses also stop a lot more than bikes do and have a lot more traffic than bikes do Also if you're going to college it's your job to make sure you can get to your classes on time not the professors Things have scheduled times for a reason it's ops job to be a responsible adult and live within the rules just like everyone else

Here's a solution. Don't register early classes and schedule on a time you can get there early for.

Have you ever been to college? Because some classes are only offered at Holy Crap O'Clock in the morning. I for one have Communications 200 at 8:00 this semester. It was literally the only time it was offered.

That's a pretty normal time for school or a job not really crazy early

There's also another point people aren't considering while they're all, "get a car!": maybe OP can't drive? I'm 19 and still haven't gotten past my learners, simply because I don't have anyone to teach me, lessons cost 60 bucks an hour, and I need to rack up an offensive amount of hours for my situation (I think I can drop it as far down as 90, but I have to find a time to ask about that.). On top of that, I'll have to find the money to buy a car.

The rest of us had to pay for our cars and pay for driving lessons and all that stuff too. Not to mention renewing your tags every year. Yeah it costs money. So does food and a roof over your head.

While it does suck, your dream job may not be any more understanding about you being late. College is suppose to prepare us for the work force, and sometimes that includes finding solutions for what seems to be impossible problems. I wish you luck working this one out.

True, but once OP has a job they may be able to move closer or afford another option that isn't public transportation. It sound to me like OP really wants to be at school, but can't because buses take forever.

While good points, there are always obstacles to over come in life. While the first step would be trying to work with the instructor, if that doesn't pan out, more creative options will have to be worked on. We have all had seemingly impossible problems at our jobs that we had to come up with solutions for. This is good practice for those situations
