Laugh out loud, oral hell... I had that when my girlfriend had braces.
Maybe you could get Invisalign- or some other type of clear "braces!"
You probably don't *need* to fix your underbite unless it really bothers you. If you didn't know you had one until the orthodontist told you, then it's probably not a big enough problem to go through that again. Or, you could do what someone else said and get surgery. They'll cut through your jawbone and move it a few centimeters and then bolt it back together. If you just want to go through a short hell instead of a long hell, that is.
You've already had to go through five years, How did he not fix this over that time?
I had the same thing happen. I had braces for six years to correct a massive overbite. After a while my teeth started to slide back. So I got them again for another year. It sucked, but it was easy compared to the first time and I'm not super self conscious about my teeth anymore so I think it was worth it.
I had to wear a retainer for 9 years, starting when I was 2, got it off when I turned 11, just got 2 of my 4 wisdom teeth removed over the summer, and now get to spend the last of high school and beginning of college in braces. But before I get braces, my jaw will need to be put back in place so my jaw will be broken, shifted around, and I'll spend the summer in a face cast eating spaghetti smoothies. So I'm having trouble feeling bad for the OP.
And three more to go
Don't you have back retainers cemented to the back of your teeth, I had teeth like that but had to have these put in place cause I would have needed braces again... Teeth shift, sorry bout your luck

I had a sister who had that same problem, except she decided to get surgery instead. 5 years later it's like she never had an under bite. Maybe, if you want to, you can do the same thing and get surgery over braces
I'm not surprised. Dentists are some sadistic bastards.
