Today, I went to the airport to start the amazing 3 week vacation in Costa Rica that I've been saving for and planning for more than a year. They wouldn't let me on the plane because my passport expires in less than 6 months. FML

Yeap. it's true. It's ridiculous but true your passport can't be within 6 months of expiring. Real ****** up!!

Why the hell does that matter? I could see if it expired 6 months ago, but what the hell?

wow, as much as i tried, i couldnt think of anything funny or sarcastic to say. sooo, YDI. think of a better fml next time.

it is a law- it's incase you get stranded over there- by having the six month rule you would have to be stranded for 6 months before your passport run out you should have done your research

The reason why is probably that they don´t want you to end up stranded in another country just because you forgot to check when your passport expired (And they have a huuuuge safety buffer). It´s still pretty stupid that they can´t let people with a return ticket go though.

That sucks, but you should have done your research!

The 6 month thing with the passport is very true. Last year while planning a trip to Paris with my parents ,the guy at the travel agencie informed me that I would not be able to board the plane unless I renewed my passport bc it was 6 mnths away from expiring.

that's the law but not many enforce it, poor you.

Not many enforce it?? It is the law and any airline that makes exceptions can get a huge fine; not to mention the fact that once you get there and get denies by customs, the airline is now responsible for flying you back home. Sorry but you totally deserve it. Do your homework when trying to leave the country.

I mean yeah that sucks, but if she'd been planning so long she shoulda known the rules of the country. every country has different policies on that... some countries even require your passport be valid for 6 months AFTER the date of your departure back home from their country.... so.... YDI OP.

That sucks, but they're usually pretty adamant about that in any travel information. It's not like it's a secret.

On a related note, I've just realised one of my passports is right on six months to expiry. Thanks for the reminder... *prints out renewal forms*

One of your passports? How many do you have and what type of illegal activity are you involved in?

I have two, because of dual citizenship, which is really common. I know a few people with three, and one that's eligible for a fourth. It comes in super-handy when you have to travel a lot, or live overseas - you just choose the one that's most appropriate. ...as for the illegal activities, well, that's a story for another day...
