Today, I went to the police station to find out if the tint on my new car's windshield was too dark. The officer took one look, told me that windshield tints are illegal in California, and ticketed me. So much for being honest. FML

As I understand it, there is an exemption if you purchased the car from the dealership and it was already like that (not that you had it installed as part of the purchase). Fight the ticket.

The law doesn't quite work that way. You don't break the law and then see if you can get away with "not knowing". YDI

There's a difference between window tint and windshield tint. They each can only be legally tinted to a certain extent. It was pretty rude of the cop to treat you that way, considering you were just trying to be sure.

why didn't you check the laws before getting the tint?

I'd sue the dealership for the cost of the ticket and see about getting the ticket removed from your record since the dealership sold you an illegal product.

keep em just Crack the window abit as long as they could see inside they won't care

If it was already tinted what was the point of asking? This confuses me. And honesty has nothing to do with it if it's illegal.
