Today, I went to the police station to find out if the tint on my new car's windshield was too dark. The officer took one look, told me that windshield tints are illegal in California, and ticketed me. So much for being honest. FML

He said HIS NEW CAR!! He didn't say he got them tinted just that they were. Good Lord you people judge and assume too fast.

I'm pretty sure Google would not have ticketed you, nor would a windshield replacement company.

Challenge it. If you explain to the judge, and show proper paperwork that it was a new purchase and that you have fixed the windows, he will nullify the ticket.

tinting your WINDSHIELD is illegal in every single state since forever. You obviously did the tint yourself because no shop anywhere will tint your windshield. Also if you were doing it yourself maybe you could have had the brains to Google the laws around it in your state before you did it. You absolutely deserve the ticket.

Actually no. Do your research. Many states allow window tinting as long as you can see a certain amount. For example, in New York you just be able to see 70%. And he said the tints on his new car, meaning he could've bought it with the tints. And, also, it's different in Texas. Many cars in California have window tints, but apparently the OP's on some parts of Cali aren't as picky about it

You deserved it. It will probably be thrown out or a nice fine for your stupidity. You know there are a million and one ways to GOOGLE window tint requirements per state. Or just take it to your local state vehicle inspector. They have tint meters that measure the percentage of light visible on either side of the window..at least that's how it is in Texas. Still a moron for asking a cop to basically do his job.

This would have been something to ask the mechanic who checked out the car prior to purchase...or something to take a couple minutes and Google before forking out cash for the car. Did the people that inspected it not warn you, either?

I guess Fresno, LA, & San Jose aren't part of California because I've been to all three with tinted windows for long periods of time and haven't gotten pulled over. Oh and I got the tint done at a shop in Fresno. sounds like you got screwed I'm sorry ):
