SWEETPEA22 - You will need a fin rot medication to treat the rot. IF your fish is in anything less than 5 gallons minimum, you are killing your fish ( see previous post on bettas ) No more no less. You need to move the fish to a 5 gallon tank if you have not done so already . A brand new 5 gallon clear plastic storage tub that is food safe will be a perfect temporary tank ( these are very cheap and most homeware stores will sell them ) move all of the tankwater over to the tub, and top up with dechlorinated fresh water of the same temperature. Do not add gravel in the temporary tub-tank. Make sure to have a bunch of silk plants for the fish to hide in. Sick fish hide more to feel safer. A coconut
Sorry that meant to read a coconut cave is also fine. It will take around a month or so to fully treat the rot. You will need gentle filtration and weekly 25 % water changes. All fish require filtration and weekly water changes for the duration of life, as a matter of course. Just like you would clean out a rabbit or hamster regularly to keep the housing free of pee and poo, exactly the same for fish.
Sorry to go on but I feel the same way about fish and their mistreatment , as others do about the mistreatment of conventional 4 legged animals such as cats and dogs. Fish are amongst the most negelected and mistreated pets kept by people today. Goldfish and betts are the most popular and biggest sufferers of cruelty. Also please do not buy fish as a childrens pet. They<are complex creatures with very specific needs that a child cannot understand. most species need an optimum temperature , a certain diet ( goldfish need more vegetable matter, bettas are carnivores for example ) and water quality needs to be maintained by water changes and testing with liquid test kits. Consequemtly they are not suitable for children to take care of.
If we continue to give rights to less and less intelligent organizsms, when will we stop? You are already well past sentience. Cockroaches? Earthworms? Fleas? Tapeworms? Grass? Bacteria? HIV?
125; if you're going to assume responsibility for a 'less than sentient being', then it is YOUR job to do your research so the animal YOU bought and YOU decided to care for isn't suffering a slow and agonizing death; I have hermit crabs, and when doing the research for what they need versus what many are provided, I was appalled. I'm not saying give 'rights' to 'less than sentient' creatures, but if you're going to take in an animal, do the research- don't just trust the source you got the animal from. If everyone took the time to educate themselves, cruelty to smaller animals wouldn't be as big an issue as it is.
Friends forever!
I was confused for a minute, while reading this. I'm retarded.
You very painful and tiring
