Today, at my first day of work at a new job, I got stuck in the elevator going to the parking garage. I have claustrophobia about both elevators and parking garages. They said this never happens. FML

Today, I finally sought help for my crippling fear of elevators. When I arrived at my new therapist's office, I found the door to the stairs locked. To get to my appointment on the third floor of the building, I have to take the elevator. FML

Today, at work I got in an elevator to go upstairs. It wasn't until the doors opened minutes later and people stepped in that I realized I had zoned out and forgot to press the button for the floor I needed. I then promptly exited the elevator and waited for the next elevator to go up in. FML

Today, my building's elevators were temporarily out of service. I climbed up 17 flights of stairs only to realize I left my keys downstairs. After the painful climb back up, the elevator lights came on. FML

Today, I was late for work and sprinted to catch the elevator. I made it just in time, only to realize I was in the elevator alone and had just dramatically dived into it for no reason. FML

Today, I sat on an elevator for 10 minutes thinking I was stuck. After waiting awhile I looked at the screen to see what floor I was stuck on, only to realize I hadn't pressed a button so I had just stayed on the ground floor. FML

Today, despite being claustrophobic and avoiding lifts at all costs, I had to use the lift at work to carry boxes of paper to the 3rd floor. It broke down. FML

As a kid, I loved elevators! Now, I'm terrified of them, I make the sign of the cross every time I have to get in one. Not to mention my claustrophobia!!

Elevators aren't scary. I used to be claustrophobic, but then I locked myself in a closet for a few hours and was fine.

I do a similar thing when I need to have a MRI. A few days before the appointment, I clear a space underneath my bed and slowly wriggle under. It gives me the exact same feeling of going in a small space, but I can calm myself down as I do it. When I had my first MRI I had to be sedated, now I am generally fine. Still get panicky if I see a picture of some idiot adult stuck in a kids jungle gym.
