Today, in a large church youth group, we were told to write our current biggest trial on a piece of paper, crumple it up, and throw it in pile. I wrote "My mother's death and having to leave my friends and family." The one I picked up just said "math." FML

Everyone struggles with other things. Im sorry for you OP!

Wow man. I'm so sorry for your loss. But do understand, some people don't feel comfortable enough to share their real thoughts and feelings.

Some people just don't have that much of a problem, and they still think they're miserable. Which pisses me off.

Having to state your biggest current issue doesn't exactly leave much room to say none. The person having trouble in math isn't confessing misery, they just don't have anything worse, or want to share anything else currently in their life.

Maybe the math kid will get your piece of paper and realize that there are bigger problems than theirs and it will be really helpful for them. Likewise, your getting the math kid's one might help you to realize that while life blows pretty hard right now and that there will usually be trials in your life, they won't always be as severe. The whole point of the activity is to realize that you're not alone in facing these things, and that your youth group and other people in your life are all there to help you and you to help them. ? Also, really sorry about your mom and having to move etc. I'll be praying for you. ?

I am sorry for your loss. Losing a parent at a young age is devastating. I know, my father died in an accident when I was 7. I was fortunate enough to have a stable home even so. Moving away from family and friends is hard enough without losing your mother. My belief in God sustained me. I pray you have such an foundation in your life. God bless.

Although nowhere near as bad as O.P's FML, if you have a serious difficulty with learning maths, it can put a serious amount of pressure/stress on a person and affect their self esteem, parents/teachers. Not saying it's comparable to O.P's problems. But people are trivialising it a bit. And not all teens have serious life affecting blows at an early part of their lives, luckily.

Well, obviously dealing with someone less deep!

You deserves it for going to church. Moron.

When you start adding letters into math (ex: 1x + 2a(3y/4z)=b), math CAN become a trying trial

Maybe it had super-severe dyscalculia.
