I'm sorry, but I would've repeatedly kicked the kid to see how she likes it. Brat is definitely old enough to know not to do shit like that.
I'm sorry but a 9 year old is definitely old enough to know how to treat animals, especially not to kick them!
Another reason I hate kids...
Cruelty towards animals is a sign of psychopathic tendencies. It could also be triggered because she herself had been abused. It's possible it was an isolated incident and won't happen again. Now I'm not saying she's a psychopath as we can't firmly diagnose something like that as child's brains aren't fully developed, but it's something that warrants watching. I'm sorry about your dog OP I hope she's alright. And hopefully your daughter comes to her senses.
I say that her kid needs to be ******* destroyed.
Sounds pretty similar to my sister-in-law and her boyfriend's kids. She wants her mom to put down their dog because it'll growl or bark at the kids when they repeatedly hit it or pull its tail. Yet she nor her husband do anything to try raising those kids themselves. They expect everyone else to do it for them. The older one is 5 I believe and appear to refuse to put her in school for some reason. My sister-in-law is a real piece of work.
Nine years old is way too old to be acting like that and the child definitely knows (or should know) better. If I were you and that kind of behavior reflects what the child is generally like, I wouldn't want to spend time with her in the first place. That said, your daughter is being ridiculous and I really hope you're able to work things out with your family soon, OP.
Do not destroy your dog... Enjoy your time with you loyal companion and in time your daughter will come running back to you especially when she needs a baby sitter or something like that. Be strong, I am thinking of you and with you!
If it was me I'd be cool. dogs>kids all day
Nine years old is old enough to know not to kick an animal, whether taught or not. At that age, she'll have been in contact with people outside of her home through some combination of school/friends/daycare/camps/extraneous activities to have had ~someone~ tell her that hitting and kicking aren't nice. If common courtesy wasn't enough for her to extend that general idea to animals, then the fact that dogs have nice, sharp teeth should have. The kid was being stupid and knew exactly what she was doing. She's just lucky that the dog was polite enough not to bite her for being a jerk to it.

Tell her to shut the **** up.
Clearly some adults haven't realized what your granddaughter either has by now or needs to: that there are consequences for actions and that animals are not punching bags.
