Today, it was both my and my stepmother's birthday. In preparation, my dad bought a huge banner with my stepmother's name on it, and a lovely birthday cake. When I told him it was also my birthday, he just grunted and taped a post-it note to the banner with my name on it. Same with the cake. FML

That's messed up!!! Sorry:( happy late birthday from me

I share my bday with my brother in law (I'm older). He claims I stole his day every year. My mother in law called me in the evening on my bday this year to tell me 'she forgot it was my bday cause she was so concerned about her son's, she didn't get me a card or gift, AND she was having her son over for a bday dinner. She didn't have enough food to invite me and my husband (her son) over and she wouldn't be able to get more food.' I don't know why she didn't just call me and say happy bday and leave out all the rest. I don't care about the card, gift, dinner but don't rub it in my face that you forgot about me.

That sounds exactly like something my dad and stepmother would do if I still saw them and had the same birthday as her. Awful stepparents who manage to totally manipulate your real parents are truly awful. My sympathy, OP.

Why would he put tape on a post-it note? Isn't the point of post-it that you don't need tape

Why do parents pick their new spouse over their kids?

This is generally the kinda stuff that happens when fathers remarry. And then people genuinely have no idea as to why stepmothers are so widely disliked by their stepchildren.
