13 and 14 need to chill out and not speak for their entire gender. Personally, I like it when my boyfriend protects me over stuff like this. It's a sweet gesture, like walking on the left when you're on the sidewalk. OP didn't say he makes her do the dishes and bring him beers while he watches football every night. Just that he was protecting her over something that she might have very well been scared to do.
