Today, my 13-year-old sister told me that she wants to get pregnant soon to stop her periods for a while. I can't believe we're related. FML

Hey guys OP here. I'm a little late on the follow up but here it is anyway. I obviously complained to my mum who sat her down and told her how painful her pregnancies had been. My sister seemed adequately scared. My sister now insists that she had just been kidding but I know for a fact that she wasn't. And finally I assure you guys if she ever brings a guy home to 'stop her periods' I will personally get rid of him.

Did you explain to her that being pregnant and going through labor is 100x worse than getting a period? And the fact that raising a child isn't exactly a piece of cake either?

No thirteen year old kid should be thinking about getting pregnant

Has she not gone through sex Ed classes?! They might do her some good...

Time to tell the parents. ASAP

recommend birth control pills or even an IUD OP? I had horrible monthlies in middle school (ie couldn't even move for an entire week the cramps were so bad). So then I started taking BC pills on continuous use and have 4 periods a year. It's fantastic!

I'm on my second Mirena. Love it! No periods in over six years. My only issue was an UTI from insertion of the second one, a common problem and easily fixed. IUDs can be used in women who haven't had children with no health dangers. You just have to find a doctor who is up to date on their research in IUDs, as it used to be said otherwise.

Agreed! I've been debating on switching to be honest; but just haven't yet. Might talk to my OB in July at my annual. And then what's the one that is inserted in your arm? implanon or nexplanon I think? I want to ask about that one too.

That's the only reason why I want to get prego bahahaa

Period DO suck. Especially when you first start. She's probably just extremely emotional and frustrated. I will say you should have a serious talk with her.

This sounds like a conversation for parents. But if you need to be the cool and wise brother, I think you know what to say.

Sadly sounds like some of the teenage girls around here. What ever happened to just being a Dam kid! Makes me cringe.

Might want to get her on some form of birth control. Many will stop periods, or at least makes them lighter/less frequent. Provides double protection against a baby showing up, as hopefully it will get ride of her desire to get pregnant anytime soon, in addition to stopping her from getting pregnant.

And that's the day I totally lost hope in humanity!!

She does know there's something called birth control right?
