Today, my 13-year-old sister told me that she wants to get pregnant soon to stop her periods for a while. I can't believe we're related. FML

Hey guys OP here. I'm a little late on the follow up but here it is anyway. I obviously complained to my mum who sat her down and told her how painful her pregnancies had been. My sister seemed adequately scared. My sister now insists that she had just been kidding but I know for a fact that she wasn't. And finally I assure you guys if she ever brings a guy home to 'stop her periods' I will personally get rid of him.

Did you explain to her that being pregnant and going through labor is 100x worse than getting a period? And the fact that raising a child isn't exactly a piece of cake either?

No thirteen year old kid should be thinking about getting pregnant

You can take pills to slow/stop your period and those don't come with an eighteen year parasite. :)

In my case, being pregnant was a breeze compared to having periods. Even on birth control I wouldn't have a period for a couple months and then bleed heavy for a month straight. I've been in the hospital way too many times since puberty and almost had to have a couple blood transfusions. I begged for a hysterectomy and they refused "because you might want a kid later." Nevermind the fact that they Kept teling me I couldn't carry and when, at 26, I did get pregnant I was such high risk that the restrictions put on me were ridiculous. I had a healthy baby but they still refuse to perform a hysterectomy because they say I might want another one. Because yeah.... My whole goal in life is to keep popping out babies at the risk of my own health and possibly death. My husband is able to get a vasectomy though. They didn't even bat an eye when he asked. *snorts* I got pregnant while on the depo shot. Periods were still hell and it wasn't just the 2-4 a year like they promised. Still, even with a hellish period that likes to try and kill me, never once did I think "Man, I'd sure like to be pregnant to stop this pain for a while. Your mom needs to get her one of those heavy belly/pregnancy suits and make her wear it 24/7 (even in bed) and get one of those dolls that won't stop crying. Maybe some psych help while she's at it too because your sister has a way warped way of looking at things.

Well, I would say that she doesn't understand what she's saying, but she clearly understood that periods are ceased during pregnancy...it shouldn't be much harder to retain the knowledge of why, at 13, periods are preferred (hallelujah) over pregnancy.

My sister told me the exact same thung last week!

Maybe you should actually speak to her about this, and all of her other options instead of posting on FML?

I had to comment based on everyone's freaking out. Years ago, when I was 13, I used to make jokes like that. I got diagnosed with a disorder that makes my periods much worse than the average person's, and I used to joke I'd get pregnant to stop the horrible cramps, passing out, nausea, etc. My mother always knew it was a joke and knew I was in pretty excruciating pain.

Tell her birth control will do the same damn thing. Educate her fast.
