Your a complete asshole and YDI for not keeping it under control. If you cant handle the snake then dont have one!

Thumbs up just because that's my favorite book, ever

How the hell is it his fault? Ever heard the phrase "accidents happen"? It could be the store he bought the enclosure from sold him a faulty product. This kind of stuff happens every day, whether people put it on FML or not. What proof do you have that it wasn't an equipment failure or a very clever snake? All he says is that it got loose, not that he forgot to close its enclosure or anything like that. I've heard a lot of stories about snakes getting out of even well-made tanks. Think before you hit YDI.

easy. they make cages with locks. if he's going to own such a dangerous animal, he should have a better cage, even if it costs more. people are stupid and dont secure their cages right. the idiot that had the burmese that killed his daughter somehow thought keeping a heavy blanket on top of the cage was enough. this is a ydi all the way.

You didn't address the point of faulty cages. Argument fail.

if it has a proper lock, it wont be faulty. and if they gave a damn about it being a good lock, theyd test it to make sure it wouldnt just break. obviously you've never dealt with cages that have actual locks on them. not crappy plastic clips, actual metal locks that require a key.

YDI for having a snake as a pet. Snakes belong in the wild where they can follow their insticts without devastating other pet owners.

Why keep any pets at all? Don't all animals really belong in the wild?

We all belong in the wild, we are all animals. Woot!

Well, yeah, they do :) But cats and dogs have been domesticated and are capable of living with humans and having pretty good lives. Snakes, on the other hand, do not belong in cages. Neither do rabbits, because you never know when a massive snake is going to escape from your neighbour's house leaving your rabbit with chance of survival.

@#113 Dogs cause more deaths than snakes in the USA.

how did it get outside? I assume that your snake was in a room, in the house. 6ft snakes are quite thick, so it would be difficult for it to escape to the great outdoors. Snake-proof your house. I did that when I got my snake, and he's only 2ft now.

#36, 6 ft snakes aren't always thick. It always depends on the breed. Plus, even thick snakes can get out of (and into) houses, "snake proofed" or not... you'd be surprised.

Half of you people don't understand that things happen, and that snakes aren't idiots. If they're strong enough, they can bang the top of the cage a few times and the clamp on the cage will come off. ONe of my snakes got loose during the fourth of july, and it was a big thing on the news and stuff. It was definetly bigger than six feet, and guess what, it was STILL too small to kill/eat humans. A majority of snakes are. The worst that happened was that a few cats went missing, and we ended up finding him on a farm. So, OP, in a small way, YDI, but not as much as these people think you do. Because it's not as bad as they think.

"The worst that happened was that a few cats went missing..." ... how is this not that bad?!

It's not that it ISN'T bad, it's that it's LESS bad. When a HORRIFYING DEADLY AFRICAN SNAKE THAT CAN MOVE AT 50MPH (as the media tends to imply), most people are concerned for their children. #40, were the cats ever found?

brings down the stray population?

I don't know that much about snakes, but I thought they didn't hunt if they have been well fed. if that's the case, then YDI for not feeding your pet. YDI anyway for not locking the enclosure. Duh!

snakes are not pets! and from what i can tell is an exotic animal, which in my opinion should be outlawed. for this reason, and maybe next time it may not be a pet, it may be a human

*Facepalm* That's enough of this today...

Last time my 6 foot snake got loose in the neighbors backyard I ended up becoming a sex offender. You got off easy dude.
