My boss called me into her office and congratulated me, and spent almost half an hour asking me what our wedding plans were, where we might honeymoon, if we wanted kids, etc. She then followed this by suddenly remembering she had called me into the office to sack me. Today, my boss called me into her office to tell me I needed to mind my own business and not question everything my newest co-worker does. Yesterday, I stopped the new girl from giving $6,000 to the wrong person. I was fired on the spot. The new girl was promoted into my job. FML

That's why you never **** the company. As for all those asking why the boss can't fire them himself, get your minds out of your minimum wage fast food jobs. OP could be a regional manager, or head of some sort of sub-division manager. So while he might be reporting into someone, it might still be his responsibility to fire these people. No matter how hardworking they are, I had to fire top notch people because there wasn't enough money to pay them. Welcome to the recession.

You must not have heard the phrase "Never dip your pen in company ink". I'd say you're in a better position to ask her out now. You're not the one who chose to let her go, and if you didn't blame her performance as why she was fired, then she shouldn't have an issue with you.
