That's why you never **** the company. As for all those asking why the boss can't fire them himself, get your minds out of your minimum wage fast food jobs. OP could be a regional manager, or head of some sort of sub-division manager. So while he might be reporting into someone, it might still be his responsibility to fire these people. No matter how hardworking they are, I had to fire top notch people because there wasn't enough money to pay them. Welcome to the recession.
