Today, my boss called me to his office, and played back a recording of me telling a co-worker that if I still worked there in a year, I would hang myself. He then bitched me out for unprofessional conduct. The taped conversation took place over a year ago, with my recently ex-boyfriend. FML

he's telling you to hang yourself since you recorded that a year ago

Am I the only one who thinks OP's Boss is upset that she didn't actually hang herself and that's the only reason they're bringing it up?

recording private conversations without concent is against most state laws. If done across states it is a federal crime. You can sue him. If this is real.

Actually only 12 states prohibit recording without the consent of the other party, hardly a majority.

I'm pretty sure every phone call is recorded at that company and all the employees know it. my company does the same thing and all my employees know that all of their calls are being recorded. it's a priceless tool that helps protect my company and the customers from false claims, among other things.

just to let everyone know, in the real world "just suing" someone is a complicated & expensive procedure. it doesn't work like that unless that job was worth a lot of money.

Exactly!! Unless you go to small claims court (which has a maximum of $5000 or less, depending on the state) it is super expensive, time consuming, etc. Everyone thinks they are a law expert, lol...
