if one has pneumonia, one is not entitled to go to work. get a dr's note. ydi for being hard headed
Some employers don't care. They'll just lay you off, especially if you live in an 'at will' state or are in your 'probationary period' (when just starting off). It sucks, but that's life for you.
miss ambitious is right. my fiancé fell of the roof where he works. about a 10-12 ft drop and had a huge bruise on his arm and rib cage from landing on a giant rock. he was so lucky to not hit his head or fracture his arm. the bosses asked him if he could still keep on working and said he didnt need to go to the hospital...thankfully he took advice from some other pplto go to the hospital instead. there are bosses that dont care if you get hurt if it means saving them money
you guys should both vote, if you agree this shouldn't be the norm
@miss. this when you contact a lawyer and buy the place of business. Bring in a note and they can't touch you, even in at will states.
Take care of yourself, OP.
Would your boss be Joseph Stalin by any chance?
that's illegal, and if he fires you, you can sue the pants right off of him as an individual and the company at large.
It's not illegal everywhere. Some states don't need a reason to fire you.
@early. even when they say it was for no reason a lawyer will help you own thw business. the only reason I'm still employed is cause I told them I wouldn't sign anything on the way out the door and call a lawyer.
Does your boss know that? Maybe he's oblivious? A doctors note would cover you.
if you have a broken ankle and pneumonia, you shouldn't even be at work
I had to rush to NY (I'm from Ohio) for an extremely unexpected funeral and my boss was very rude about it, showed zero compassion. All she cared about was making sure I got my shifts covered.
do you work for Chipotle .
Well he's paying you right? You gotta make business work. Sorry if you're not capable of doing your job? Not his problem!
@CB if the individual can not perform thwir job as described they need a doctors note, FMLA form, and a whole lot of good tv. Stay home and heal, poor work performance is poor work performance, regardless of the reason.

My boyfriend had a really bad cold and a sprained ankle, and his boss says "well, you're not dying right? You start at 3" I get so pissed off at bosses like this, this is the reason workers suffer panic attacks and anxiety.
Try to get a doctor's note to give to your boss
