Today, my boss confessed to me that she doesn't know how to change the staples in the staplers at work, so she just switches them when they run out. We work at an office supply store. She makes six figures. I make $10 an hour. And she just got awarded a trip to Aruba for doing a "great job". FML

I seriously doubt that anyone working at a supply store makes a six figure salary.

i'm sure theres more to the job than things like that

#8, If it's a major chain like Office Depot, the upper management can make quite a nice salary.

Well she certainly doesn't get paid to put staples in staplers anyway. Its likely that she has a lot of other more valuable skills that got her the position. Plenty of 'smart' people fail at some of the simpler things in life, while being incredibly successful with more complex tasks, because they invest their time and energy differently. Its always amusing to see when it occurs :P, but I wouldn't hate them for it. (Or she just slept her way up to the top, in which case, FYL indeed =/).

Because I'm sure that you know how to do absolutely everything in the world. Obviously, the lack of a tiny piece of knowledge is enough to condemn someone, in your point of view. I'll have to check my facts, but last I looked, the equation was not "Stapler Incompetent = Terrible Work Ethic". At least she confessed to you that she doesn't know how; that shows strength of character; admitting your faults. I'm afraid that the same thing can't be said for you, whining about it on this site.

how do you get a six figure pay for working at a supply store?

How is this an FML? So your boss doesn't know how to change staples - who cares? If that was her job, it'd probably only take her 2 minutes to learn how to do it. Apparently investing time in other aspects of life has paid off for her. But if you knew how to manage a business, then I'm guessing you wouldn't be making $10 an hour. Chances are you can't learn how to do that in a few minutes.

Albert Einstein couldn't do up his buttons.

that's why you shoulda stayed in school!

She isn't paid to switch out the staples in the staplers. Sure, it makes her sound stupid, but that sounds like your job.

I do find the irony amusing that she works in management of an Office supplies store and can't put staples in a stapler and makes 6 figures while you work just above minimum. but at the same time, you don't really need to know how to fill up a stapler to be good with sales figures and things of that nature. I know plenty of people who can recite mile long equations and know how to solve them but wouldn't know how to put windsheild fluid in their cars. Granted not the exact same thing, but you get the point. Maybe you should go back to school and get a real job :-P
