Today, my boss got mad at me because I told her that I wouldn't be able to work two days out of the week, due to college classes. She then cut back my hours so much that I now only work one day a week. I got the job in the first place to pay for my college classes. FML

That's really rude, at least you offered to work 5 days

Don't worry, OP! Now you have more time to stress over classes and the finals they bring! Who needs financial income when you've got stress keeping you going!

don't worry op. I told my boss pretty much the same thing, and she got pissed, bitched at me, and is punishing me for it by demoting me and taking all my hard earned responsibilities that I love, away. I'm in college too.

Apply at Home Depot. I work full time there and school full time. You may have to start off part time, but with spring coming up, you could get 20+ hours a week. They give me me 2 days off a week for classes and I work the other 5.

I had a job like that also. They expected me to cut school because they would mess up my schedule. In the end they cut me back to 4 hrs a week. I quit and got a new job.

If you didn't have a conversation and come to an agreement before you started taking classes this is all on you. You were hired to do a job, and your employer decides when you work, not you.

My ex-employer tried to do the same thing to me. I spent that day using my work phone to contact other employers and went on an interview on my lunch break. They offered me the job, called my old employer to say I quit and never came back from lunch. The moral of the story is that you should never let anything stand in the way of your education. I hope you left that job and found somewhere that appreciates your motivation to pursue your education. :)

well, how long of a notice did you give? if I went to my bosses and said I need tomorrow and the next day off, no shit they would cut back my hours! based on that they would never know if I'm going to show up or not

Dam op i tought it only happend to me as well

I'm commenting as a boss who employs a lot of college students. Most of my employees sit with me or the other managers at the beginning of semester and we black out the days they can't work. We also have limited business hours. Sometimes, class times + operating hours = employees not getting as many hours as they would like. We do the best we can, but we can't schedule when we aren't open. Truth is, as an employer; I do tend to give more hours to the employees who plan their classes around work. It shows commitment to the company and planning. I still voted "fyl" but wanted to offer a little insight from my perspective. Truth is tho, your boss is probably a butthead. Hang in there.
