Today, my boyfriend and I had breakfast with his grandmother. She told him how I'm prettier than "that Mexican" he'd brought home for dinner last week. We had dinner with her last week, and I'm that same Mexican. She then went on to how Mexicans are what's wrong with the economy. FML

Oh Grandma, is your Alzheimer's acting up again?

Well at least now you know if you ever mess up in front of her, she'll forget about it within a week!

Sounds like my crazy grandma. She once told me that black people have to wear special make up on tv or else they will look green. Grandmas are insane. Eta: actually, she may have said "the coloreds"

Either she's senile or doesn't like you and she's just hinting. But I was expecting something along the lines of "he went on a date with a Mexican girl last week. I've been with him for 2 months and I'm not Mexican" kinda thing...hm.

Shame on you for being a Mexican. Why you gotta ruin the economy?

I'm sorry op :/ grandmas tend to be like that though. My grandma had alzeimers and whenever she saw me she'd rant about how much she hated Americans (I'm American, she was Australian), you just have to learn to ignore it and remember she doesn't fully know what she's saying.

Cut the old girl some slack. Racism is obviously not acceptable in any for but for some of the older generation that behaviour is so deeply ingrained in them that regardless of how hard they may try the odd comment is bound to slip out. Hopefully it was a on off comment and not indicative of her true feelings or behaviour

Old people get away with murder. She is a racist dirtbag, and that was probably her sneaky way of letting you know what she really thinks. Why do people let them off the hook?! It's the upside of stereotyping for the elderly!

Some people just hate anybody who does not look like themselves. I had prejudice remarks spouted at me often when I was a kid and teen because my mom is japanese and married to a white guy. I grew up in a mainly white middle class neighborhood. I remember one parent standing there and encouraging her brats to call me racist names...all while using their index fingers to make their eyes slanted while they yelled their bs.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope those kids grew up to learn to be better people than their parents.

Karma got them. About 2yrs later their alcoholic dad got sent to prison for his 15+ DUI. Mom left and living on welfare with 5 unruly brats. I heard the eldest boy (the one who treated me the worst) lives in a run down trailer and works in a flea market ticket booth.

I'm glad karma bit them in the ass. I also got picked on for having Asian-looking eyes (but I'm Mexican! o.o) and now all of those assholes are either pregnant or working at a fast-food restaurant and living with their parents.

What an ignorant asshole! If it weren't for Mexicans, our economy would we in all-out depression. It's the greedy Wall Street types that cooked up Ponzi schemes and other frauds that collapsed and almost sunk the American economy altogether. Your dumb, bigoted grandma needs to get her facts straight!
