Today, my boyfriend of 2 years decided to tell an unimaginably rude joke to my grandma while at my house. She hit him over the head with a vase, and he's threatening to press charges. I still don't know whose side to take. FML

Today, I went over to my boyfriend's house to surprise him and caught him with another girl. As my boyfriend got up to explain himself, I, in a state of shock, violently threw up on him (and partially her). His mum had let me in the house. At least I know whose side she's on. FML

Well, your boyfriend seems like an asshole for wanting to press charges, however granny didn't need to hit him over the head with a vase. Perhaps everyone can sit down and settle things like adults? Hopefully this will teach your boyfriend to keep his rude jokes to himself!

I'd blame your boyfriend, depending on the joke. Did you think it was that rude before or after he got hit over the head with the vase? Besides, he shouldn't be putting you in the position of having to chose between him and your family. I'd be pissed at my girlfriend or family if they made me choose. But tell grandma to stop hitting people with vases for me, okay?

OP, tell your boyfriend that if he does press charges, your Grandma won't go to jail due the nature of the offence and her age, though she might get a fine - but he will be forever linked to police records showing he went crying to the cops when he was beat up by an old lady. At the end of the day, who's going to look worse?! Tell him to man up and grow a sense of propriety.

Don't take sides. Both people's behaviour was wrong. However, your grandmother's was worse. Your boyfriend didn't do anything against the law while your grandmother did. She should learn to take a joke.
