Today, my boyfriend of 2 years decided to tell an unimaginably rude joke to my grandma while at my house. She hit him over the head with a vase, and he's threatening to press charges. I still don't know whose side to take. FML

The problem is not the problem. The problem is your grandmas reaction to the problem. That's the problem.

Well, your boyfriend seems like an asshole for wanting to press charges, however granny didn't need to hit him over the head with a vase. Perhaps everyone can sit down and settle things like adults? Hopefully this will teach your boyfriend to keep his rude jokes to himself!

You should take your boyfriend's side because your grandma shouldn't have reacted that way

".....and they called their act "The Aristocrats!"!! Oowwwwww granny, stop hitting me!!

I want to know what the joke was... Regardless of how rude it was, I can't imagine it being bad enough to justify hitting someone over the head with a vase...

Your boyfriend sounds like a total dick. Your grandma, on the other hand, sounds awesome. Lose the creep and get her some more vases.

What about the vase? Nobody cares about the vase?!?!

Which side to take? The self-preservation one. Reconsider this boyfriend. After two years, he behaves despicably to a family elder in your home. He whines when a granny is able to brain him. Then he wants to publicize said braining by a granny in the public record with formal charges. You'll be required to testify under oath (no marital privilege sheild). The vase is a small price to pay for ridding yourself of this douchebag. Better luck next time.

He told a bad taste joke, that is no excuse for violence, the boyfriend is right too press charges. I wonder what you would think if it was a grandfather who attacked a girlfriend with a vase? Would that be acceptable to you?

177 - Nowhere here do I condone violence. "Unimaginably rude joke to my grandma while at my house" does not a good two-year boyfriend make. That OP is considering not taking his side makes this a BIG red flag.
