Today, my long-distance British boyfriend of 7 years canceled his plane ticket to visit me in the USA. He claims he "doesn't have enough money" to stay for 2 weeks. As I began canceling all the reservations, he called to say he bought a new car and a house. FML

Today, my boyfriend gave me an ultimatum: either cancel my amazing work trip or stay with him. I chose the trip and he assured me he’d be gone by the time I got back. His issue? My boss thought it’d be cheaper to get an AirBnB instead of getting us all hotel rooms, and that men are also going. FML

Today, I told my boyfriend I wouldn't be able to get any time off work to go to Mexico with him, and that we'd have to get our tickets refunded, and reschedule. He said not to bother, and that he already had someone else in mind to take with him. FML

Today, my boyfriend wanted to take me to a movie after days of not seeing me. This long-awaited date involved me paying for food and my movie ticket when he ran out of cash again. He then dumped me as we left the theater walking to his car. Yes, I financed my own breakup date. FML

Today, I got home from visiting my long-distance girlfriend. I spent $366 to get a plane ticket to visit her for the week. The day after I arrived there, she broke up with me and I had to buy a ticket for an earlier flight home. With fees and penalties, I paid around $550 to be broken up with. FML

Please don't dump him before you have a talk. Even with the limited information you've given, he sounds like a guy who is more responsible than not. Even if you pay all his obvious expenses, he will still incur a few costs, from purchasing the things he's forgotten, to the bills he forgot to pay before leaving, to the dinner he'll want to pay for you ("no really, my treat!" he'll say). I can't imagine spending less than $500 on even a "free" trip. If he's thinking that way, you may actually have yourself a winner: someone who doesn't mind a freebie, but isn't irresponsible enough to think he won't have to pay for something at some point. In short, He's not as much of a mooch as he may seem to outsiders. Talk to him.
