Wait a minute. This doesn't actually prove that the boyfriend doesn't appreciate OP the way she is. If that were the case then he would ask her to stuff all the time, not just when around friends. Clearly the problem is not that the boyfriend is excessively shallow (well, hey, almost everyone of both sexes IS shallow, and yet most people still end up in decent relationships), but that he has self-esteem issues.
