OP here! I would love to move his litter box but in a one bedroom apartment it's pretty useless, unless I want the smell in the bedroom or living room/kitchen! As for shutting the door, I probably should! Took me a little while to realize what he was doing, since this is a recent habit of his. The little turd (pun intended) used to chill with me as I was getting ready and him meowing outside of the door is annoying as hell. But, yeah, all in all, I vacate the premises for a few minutes, light a candle and all is good :)

You are feeding your cat bad food if it smells 'noxious' when he goes number 2. Your cat should be eating mostly raw meat unless it's still a kitten. Think about it. Cats are predatory animals. What kind of predatory animal wants to leave a smelly turd lying around in the wild. I feed my cat B.A.R.F. (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) or beef/chicken mince with a mix of tinned food. It must look and smell like something I could eat before I will give it to my cat, none of this loaf-rubbery-looking crap. He's an 11-month-old Ragdoll cat. His urine and stool does not smell. Occasionally he will do a bad one if he eats something that doesn't agree with him (eg human food). It should be firm pieces that are not long. I'm against teaching cats to do their business in a toilet, 1) it's unnatural, the cat should be able to mark its territory to make itself feel more at home 2) I think people that do this only do it because they are too lazy to empty a litter box. Seriously, get flushable cat litter, scoop the box out once or twice a day and the litter will last for a month or more. It's not difficult. I love my cat (he's pretty much my firstborn child) and will do anything for him. Scooping a litter box out once or twice a day is just part of the deal you accept when you get a cat. :) I hope this helps - if you need anything you can feel free to PM me OP.
Why don't you just move the litter box To a different room?
Invest in some candles. Also lighting a match can help with the smell as well.
Have you ever tried closing the door-___-
Get an enclosed litter box, they work wonders, especially if you have more than one cat.
Not all cats like them unfortunately. I had one start peeing everywhere but the box when I got one. Had to switch back.
Move his litter box..

#78 that is absolutely hilarious. Our cat will stare us down the entire time. He keeps eye contact like a man.
I totally get it OP , my cat loves to attack my ankles if he thinks I am getting ready to leave. I know this because he almost never attacks me when I am heading to my room. The things we do for our cats.
My cat uses the litter box while I'm using the bathroom too. I think it's a show of solidarity. We're best buds I guess.
I'm in a 1-bedroom apartment with 2 kittens. I have their litter box in the front closet since I don't use it and keep a little garbage can with a kid beside it and empty it once or twice a day to keep the smell down
83-- I know you meant "lid", but that typo was hilarious! Way to put that kid to work :)
I was really hoping you had trained the cat to use the toilet :(
my cat literally does the exact same thing

I can't make brunch at 9, I have an 8:45 dump scheduled when Megan is doing her makeup.... I just really love her.
What are you feeding him? It's not his fault...
