Today, my co-workers agreed that I was the one causing the elevator to be over its weight limit. When I protested, saying that I only weigh around 150 pounds, one asked me if that included the weight of my wheelchair. They made me get out. FML

D: What has come of us to do such a thing?! That's horrible!

To be fair, it's the last person on who caused the load to exceed the limit. If the last person gets off and the load is still excessive, the next-to-last (the penultimate person, if you will) person needs to get off, etc. They probably just resent you because of your awesome parking spot.

Yes Perdix, you are absolutely correct on all counts. What is truly angering is that often we are the FIRST ones on the elevator and the able-bodied snarl and snap at us as they try to squeeze in. We always wait our turn but when our turn comes, everyone is furious. And you are dead-on accurate about the parking. Elderly people scream and rant at me as I off-load my kid that I only brought her out with me so I could steal the handicapped spot from them. Uh, no, it's because she's 5 and I can't leave her alone while I shop and why should she be a prisoner in our house? Disabled 5-year-olds like to 'do' the mall and get ice cream as much as their normal counterparts do. My kid's life is miserable enough without someone getting pissed off at us because I took her to the mall for a kiddie cone. I honestly don't care about the parking space. It's the area NEXT to the space I need, so I can drop her ramp down and off-load her. And you would not believe how often that space is taken up by a motorcycle. Uh, attention motorcycle riders; that space is for a wheelchair van's ramp. It is not a parking space for your vehicle.

:( thats sad. Old people for the most part seem to think they are entitled to elevators and parking spaces whether they are disabled or not. Or the spot at the front of the bus where (at least where i stay) the front bit is for buggies or wheelchairs. I will sit my sons buggy there but as far as im concered a wheelchair user needs that spot more than i do. I can always fold down my buggy if need be. I have been tutted at, given nasty looks and spoken about behind my back because i had to sit at the front of the bus to be beside my sons buggy or had to use the lift because they only other way up in the shopping centre is escalators which we cant use. People really need to think before they act.

Mum used to put big "flyers" on people's windscreens with "IGNORANCE IS NOT A DISABILITY" if they parked in the disabled spaces without blue badges. Some of the supermarkets in the UK have a similar scheme is stickers that have to be scraped off before one could drive. We never have any trouble with disrespectful people though; maybe a 6ft (standing) tall man in a very large wheelchair intimidates people into being accomidating.

Oh don't get me started on people and those spots. While I look healthy I suffer from a few conditions that cause pain and weakness. I use my sticker in bad days only. Last time I was grocery shopping as I was loading my car up, two old ladies walked by and started making rude comments about how I didn't need the spot if they could get around cause I was so young. I don't know if I was more furious or hurt. I feel bad for op. People are rude. And they should be glad they don't have to spend even one day in the position of needing assistance.

Surely this is discrimination. I would report them to the relevant department.

Complain and have them fired. They can't treat you that way. You have more right to use that elevator than them.

HR department. Tell them you were discriminated against. Companies usually don't want that kind of drama.

They think your the one making the elevator over it's weight limit? Well you should've told them to go look in the mirror

Well bury me sideways after pushing me down the stairs in a wheelchair. Who has a problem with making a stand, proving their point that the stairs just aren't an option?

WOW REALLY!?!?! Just get off the elevator and wait the oh so long 1-2min for the next one. Handicapped people always look for equality but when they get it they bitch about it. They requested that u get out because of weight hmm for wat reason?? U were prolly the last one in n therefore easiest out! Everyone claiming discrimination and etc etc is a complete moron.

*probably . I know, simple shorten version of a word right when you're posting incredible diarrhea, right? People like you should grow a brain, they forced him out of the elevator, the co-workers were LAZY to wait for the next one. The heaviest one should have gotten out. The point of this fml is that people (not you, now you're nit considered a person) should give respect to people with trouble getting from point ******* A to point flipping B, also people with disabilities. Right now, you're disgrace, good-bye.

Thats not eqaulity. it would have been if OP had the same chance of getting upstairs once out of the elevater. Op's coworkers could have walked upstairs or waited for the next one, Op has no choice but to wait and whos to say the next lift wont be full of inconsiderate lazy wankers too.

Nobody put a hand on him or gave him an ultimatum so I do not see how he was "forced" out of the elevator? The wait isnt bad anyway, hes sitting in a chair. Should we give them("people with trouble getting from point ******* A to point flipping B, also people with disabilities") respect or are you asking to give them pity because of a disablity? Sounds more like pity to me and pity is nothing respectable to have. These are business people not petty children picking on someone, so that being said there was a reason, an unstated reason of he was last on, that OP was ASKED to leave the elevator. Since you buy into peoples pity I hope that you can see it in yourself to not be hypocritical and give every bum you see 50bucks. Diarrhea is uncomfortable to deal with, so is the truth.
