Yeah that was my first thought when I read this. It really all depends on how he said it. OP, maybe he DOES actually like you? Or... maybe he doesn't. If you don't mind the possibility of a little bit of embarrassment, you should try to talk to him about it. Hey, if you don't take the risk you'll never know. (Unless you ask his friends, but that's the cowards way out. =P )

Maybe he was giving you an opening! If he's single and going out with just you for lunch, maybe you two could actually get together! You could have said something like, "If you pop a breath mint after you're done eating, I think you might!" If he doesn't get it you can just say you were encouraging him. Good luck!
