Today, my dad and his girlfriend left for a 10-day vacation. They booked an expensive beach-house. I'm an A grade student and just last month, he stopped paying my school fees because he 'couldn't afford it.' Oh, and he's making me feed the dog while he's away. FML

Run away and take the dog. Play guitar in the streets for cash, and make sure the dog is lying next to you with a sad face. Make it look like hes eating some garbage and people will surely give you money. Works for me.

I agree with #8 all the way. & There's worse things in life than this, your attitude makes YDI.

it doesnt even mean he is a bad dad people. there could be other reasons he stopped paying tuition. maybe this kid is an unappreciative ass like most college kids. maybe daddy is sick of paying his way and wants him to be an adult. just cause hes an A student doesnt mean he is a good kid....and OP your dad gave you life and you are gonna complain about feeding the dog?

Boatkicker is offended by stereotypes.

And how much is the OPs mother contributing to school fees?

sucks having to pay your way through life huh... get over yourself and step up to the plate.

If you are in college, you are an adult and can pay your own way. Parents aren't obligated to fork over money to their adult child's education. Plus your father is allowed to spend some alone time with his gf. You expect him to stay home, and pay your schooling instead?

No, she expects him to be honest with her. "I'm not paying for your schooling, because it's time for you to grow up and take care of yourself" would be perfectly fine. "I'm not paying for your schooling, because I can't afford it" and then going on an expensive and long vacation is bullshit.

Eh, assuming you're out of high school, I've got to vote both YLS and YDI. YLS because it sounds like he gave you no warning, which is bad financial handling if he couldn't forsee having to cut back. You're probably going to wind up paying back a loan and/or switching schools if your fees aren't paid well in advance, since securing free financial aid takes time. = YDI because parents deserve to have lives too. I'll bet he sacrificed a lot to make sure you were not only provided for, but had plenty of unnecessary but fun stuff as well, like vacations and gifts. One vacation, one instance of different priorities, doesn't negate that. The gravy train was bound to derail at some point. If the gf's pretty serious, he's going to have a new family to be concerned about as well. (Notice I said "as well", not "instead.") Besides, as someone else already mentioned, the vacation might've been paid for long ago.

As usual with your posts, everything that needed to be said. Cutting a kid in college off without giving them the warning to get a job/loan is a little shitty, if that's the case. But he paid for the OP this far. And really, "Boo-hoo my dad is happy and having fun with his life"? I wish my dad was dating someone who he had fun with and wanted to take vacations with. It would make me happy, too.

Pay your own fees whiner-baby. It's his money.

While I think it's unfortunate that he won't pay your school fees anymore, lots of kids actually do have to pay for their own education. It sucks, I know, but sometimes it's a reality.

suck it up! your parents support your ass all your life and deserve a break too. this isn't an fml piece, it's an "Im a spoiled brat" piece.

heaven forbid someone spends money on themselves before you
