They have walking modes on most models, and typically lots of business listings. It's a tremendously useful device regardless of whether you have a car.
To everyone telling OP to get a car and asking why he/she doesn't own one yet, have you priced cars lately? They're not cheap, even used ones. Or if they are cheap, there's probably a reason why, usually a bad one. I'm 26 and just got my first car ever this June. I was lucky to find a 7-year-old car with less than 40,000 miles on it at a halfway decent price. But yeah, just because OP doesn't have a car doesn't mean he/she is being lazy. It's probably financial reasons preventing the investment.
Maybe your dad thought you need some "direction" in life ;)
Driving isn't the only reason to own a GPS.. A GPS can also be useful if you're into hiking and exploring and such. Also, smartphones often come with some kind of map or GPS-like app, and that doesn't necessarily mean the owner of the phone has a car..
But as I said, a GPS can also be used for hiking, etc. Not necessarily only for cars.
maybe you can use it for you bike??
"Here's a GPS" *hint hint*
You can walk with it, or you can attach it to your bicycle. No problem.
Take a hint, hes telling you to get a license.
So you can find your way home

Maybe it's a two part gift?
Attach it to your bicycle. You never know when you might need it.
