I had the top off of my jeep and a tree frog fell on my face and I hit mailbox?? I feel your pain
Tell him. Being distracted by a bug is certainly better than being distracted by texting.
At least you prize your dignity over your phone.
The truth is not more embarassing than what he believes. And at least, in reality, it is not your fault. You should tell him, hoping he believes you now...
But you still text while driving, don't you?
I fell asleep and smashed my truck into a guard rail and my parents, to this day (this happened like 3 years ago), still insist that I was texting and driving since "there's just no way a 18 year old girl fell asleep in the middle of a construction zone"
Either way, sounds like you need some type of intervention. Driving a car is not flying a kite, you can't just have a little conniption over bugs / dirt / totes gross at your convenience and let go. You're going to kill someone. YDI.
I think your dad has a bug up his ass.

There was really nothing to be ashamed about OP, we all make mistakes and you should be honest about it:).
I'd rather say that than give in to stereotypes
