Today, my dad, under threats of disowning me, insisted that I offer my sister a job in my company. I run my own law firm, she is a hairdresser. FML

It's not up to you or your father to supply your sister with a job. Especially if she's under qualified. FYL

she chose to be a hairdresser. you chose to be a lawyer. not your fault she didn't want to study law. I say call the bluff. He prob won't disown you. just get mad for a while. It's YOUR business, not his. if you do decide to let her have a job, let her be a secretary or something, I guess ..

If you feel you must, offer something she would not want, shutting everyone up. He didn't insist that you offer her a job as a partner in the firm... or did he?

Contrary to popular belief, secretary positions in law firms and many offices actually require more schooling and experience. You can't really just walk into a firm and say I want to apply as a secretary with no background knowledge. If she needs a job that bad she can go about it like everyone else and apply places.

She's good at sweeping up, interacting with customers and doing hair. If she's trained in nails and makeup she'd make a great personal assistant. Perhaps for one of your law partners?

Your dad sounds partially crazy. Nothing to be alarmed about OP... Anyways just talk to your sister and make her convince your dad that hairdressers don't belong at a law firm. Unless she's on your dad's side, that is...

If your dad is that retarded I'd say let him 'disown' you. Sooner or later he'll come to his senses, hopefully. If that's not an option, put her as a low paid secretary. She can get your coffee n after a while she might wanna quit by herself.

Good for you OP for having your own law firm! Don't listen to your dad at all, your sister is probably old enough to take care of herself and if your dad is really going to use petty threats against you then maybe he doesn't have your best interests in mind.

then you should be making plenty of money, so would you need your dad's money?

The FML did not say anything about his fathers money.

The only practical upshot of being disowned is being cut out of the will. Of course, a will can be contested fairly easily when it comes to that.
