Take your dog to a different vet, right now. That one doesn't know what she's talking about. Chocolate is EXTREMELY toxic to dogs. I hope yours survives, though. My dog is currently recovering from a bout of severe diarrhea (though hers seems to have been due to a bacterial infection, it still scared the heck out of me and required an emergency vet visit.)
FOR THE FOURTH TIME! All a vet would have done was give the dog Ipecac to make it throw up (that's how you get toxins out of a dog, you make it throw up. Same thing for humans actually), but the dog WAS ALREADY THROWING UP! No reason to throw up in the vets office instead.
I find this extremely hard to believe because chocolate is poison to a dog, if your dog ate a whole bag of chocolate kisses and you haven't brought your dog to the vet, it will die, and NO vet would tell you not to worry about your dog eating that much chocolate.
Really? How many facepalms must I suffer tonight? Did you read any comments before you posted? Go ahead...I'll wait. Did you notice all the ones that said milk chocolate is not usually harmful? How only a small dog eating bakers chocolate might actually die? How the dog will generally throw it up to get it out of its system? Now go back to the original post...I'll wait. Notice how the dog IS throwing up?
All you douche bags who said I should put my dog down can rot in hell. And for anyone who cares milk chocolate is not toxic to dogs in small amounts. My dog ate two whole bags of Hershey kisses wrapper and all. Hense why she was puking her guts out. I took her to the vet and they said that she would be fine.
That does suck a lot, BUT, you should be grateful it's coming out and she's not dead... If it's that much of an issue put her outside or barricade her in one room so your clean up isn't all over the house. the bathroom seems like a good place, tile/linoleum floors are easy to clean with a mop, or a wet/dry shop vaccum!!!
chocolate won't kill the dog unless they ingest way too much of it. But it will make them very sick. The vet is right, as long as the dog is throwing up, it will be ok since it didn't get absorbed into the body. if it came out the other end, then you have a problem because now the toxins are absorbed into the body.
Big dogs can handle milk chocolate. Most small dogs, too. Be glad it wasn't antifreeze (can you say I.V. Everclear?? seriously, I stayed with a patient all night on it). Stay away from that Xylitol in sugarfree gum and candy. And whoever said their dog loves tampons- BEWARE!! My clinic took tampons out of 3 dogs' intestines last year alone.
wow 3 dogs in 365 days. thats sooo many......... not exactly
Don't worry, hershey isn't real chocolate, it doesn't even taste like chocolate :< /end sarcasm
my dog did the same thing easter morning, except it was like two easter baskets, the wrapping, and other chocolate and was just really hyper. She was perfectly fine after that though.

dude, you are sooo lucky the dog is alive
...and the wait begins... Good thing she knew how to induce vomiting from all those years as a show dog...
