Get your dog to a vet right away and make sure he's OK.
Regardless, it could still be very dangerous.
"My dog enjoyed cleaning it up" implies that the dog ate whatever landed on the couch.
The whole point was to prevent the dog from eating her mousse, smart one. She didn't really deserve it, she just wasn't thinking. We've all had our stupid moments.
Try some obedience classes when your dog is feeling better. Nothing is more annoying than a dog who begs for food.
chocolate is poisonous to dogs. Keep an eye on him, he'll probably have explosive diarrhea in the next few days.
It's not that bad, the chemical that's bad for dogs that's in chocolate, it's name escapes me, only dehydrates them. As long as the dog has water it should passed in 2-3 days seeing that it only has about an 18 hr half life
I had my dog eat some chocolate. It has to be at least 10oz of milk chocolate to be toxic to a 50lb dog. Dark chocolate is more toxic. A tiny bit will not kill the dog. It's the caffeine in chocolate that will kill them because it increases their heart rate.
It's also the theobromine in chocolate that's bad for dogs.
Its the theobromine that's toxic to dogs at about 45mg theobromine to 1 kg of the dog's weight. An 80-lbs dog would have to eat almost 3 lbs of milk chocolate for it to be lethal. Of course other kinds of chocolate differ such as dark baking chocolate which has almost 10 times the theobromine.
I think people overestimate just how ill a dog gets from chocolate. It's not cyanide, guys.
You drink cyanide in miniscule amounts every day, it is found naturally in water. It does not make it any less toxic.
It's not found naturally in water. TAP water is contaminated with it, spring water on the other hand is not.
#156: That may be so, but the lethal amount of cyanide in Humans is roughly 1.5mg per kilo, and the lethal amount of milk chocolate for dogs is roughly 56.6 grams per kilo. 37799 times less lethal than cyanide. My 50kg dog would have to eat almost three kilograms of chocolate before it would be a lethal dosage. Maybe 2.5 if you factor in his old age.
FYL OP. it was dumb for you to throw it but I don't think you intentionally tried feeding your dog. Actually its obvious to me but everyone seems to find you at fault for an accident. Go figure.
It's not that I think s/he did it intentionally, but when it comes to my dog's health, I'd rather not take risks. To "throw" a potentionally leathal food item, knowing full well how wrong things can go, is what earned my YDI vote.
Honestly, You make it seem like OP allowed the dog to ingest nothing but chocolate. I highly doubt letting the dog eat the mousse, which is a combination of chocolate (not even a lot at that) and several other things, will contribute to the dog dying or being hurt. In case you haven't read other peoples comments, a lot mention different types of chocolate their dogs have eaten and ended up fine. No one mentions eating straight chocolate bars which is what everyone else is implying. Because that's generally what most dogs get very sick or hurt from. Eating whole chocolate bars. Its good you take every precaution to protect your dog from harmful foods. But cleaning up the little bits of mousse I feel like would not do anything to the dog. He may fart more. Oh no, bad gas.
I see nothing in my comment that says I assume he gives his dog chocolate purposely. And you're right, a little mousse probably won't hurt him. I commented on another thread that my pup once ate a chocolate cupcake while under my boyfriend's supervision and he was fine. But it's one of those risks I'd like to avoid. I love chocolate, and I take extra precaution when enjoying chocolate sweets to keep my dog from getting to it. OP seemed to be lacking this precaution by pretending to throw it, causing a potentionally harmful substance to fly everywhere where any dog would happily lap it up. I can't speak for other commenters; accidents happen, and hopefully OP learned not to pretend to throw food items to distract his dog. A little training goes a long way.
I sure hope he didn't get too much

Chocolate can kill dogs so you might wanna take him to the vet
Alan, it says "covered the furniture" that's doesn't sound like a "speck" to me. Plus it could be a small dog and even a little bit is dangerous for them.
