if it makes you feel better my husband was the same way as a kid. he's now a chemical engineer. haha.
Solid evidence that OP's child will become one, too! At least, I think so...
I guess you could be glad that he/she is taking an interest in science
so it exploded which pissed you off, or why are you unhappy with a curious and scientific kid?
There's curious and then there's stupid. Eight years old is plenty old enough to understand microwave safety.
The kid is 8. I've seen adults make mistakes with putting stuff in the microwave that shouldn't be. And how would the kid know what would happen? There's no way for them to have prior experience of what would happen. If they did, they wouldn't have done it.
Didnt realize what was wrong with this til i read the comments. Woulda done the same thing. Im 17..
Please say this wasn't a mercury thermometer
When I was five I got the bright idea to do that so it would look like I had a fever and then I wouldn't have to go to school. (Those of you that are old enough to remember Andy, the Domino's mascot of the mid 90s, that's definitely where I got the bright idea from.) At least his was curiosity.
you should be proud, you have yourself a young physicist on your hands

Well, did it?
I'd say it's a good scientific curiosity your child has.
